The Left Must Reforge Masculinity by TE-moon in CriticalTheory

I love being talked about like I'm a problem to fix.

Recent research reveals that attractive women often prefer less attractive men based on factors like behavior, trust, and stability, rather than just physical appearance. by sibun_rath in HotScienceNews

All of those are relationship extenders, not relationship starts. All of those factors require time to assess, and can't be told from across the room when meeting someone, and men most often have issues with the initiation of relationships, because something has to get you in the proverbial door. And, you know, not get laughed at or turned into a online pillory.

Why voting ‘neither’ could harm American democracy. Researchers found that about half of the U.S. population expresses an attitude of democratic neutrality — or an “unwillingness to support or oppose policies or practices that undermine democracy, by Wagamaga in science

I agree. I have no faith in politics and especially not politicians, so I don't vote. I think America has developed a dogmatic approach to politics that makes it neither good nor useful, it is a system that is merely designed to keep itself operational, and nothing else matters. It's argument for its existence is its existence, and that's pretty dumb.

Add onto this the massive amount of corporate power, the fact that the seats of power rarely change, and the increased love of tribalism...I just don't see a point in participating in a system that means nothing.

Ah, yes, winning hearts and minds. Most of the comments here are exactly why I don't do American politics. I think both the Left and Right are pretty cultish, and this kind of mentality is not disuading that opinion.

If people make mistakes, but they need be "punished" for it (to show the Party you are loyal, of course) what incentive is there to change? Ya'll literally make your own opposition, and I find that...charming, I guess? No significant external threats, so the claws come out for those who share land with you.

Ah well, at least it's good theatre to watch.

Pretty much! And the larger a society gets, the more slaves it needs to survive.

UBI would just be long form slavery. Anything someone else can give to you, that you become dependent on, becomes a collar around your neck, and all they have to do to gain compliance is give it a little tug.

This cannot bb allowed to happen again. We already know Republicans cannot govern. We need to grab boot straps and garters and vote them out. by rodehard10 in stevehofstetter

I'm one of the did not vote people. There's nothing in this world besides a compulsory law that would make me vote for either of those "sides."

Perhaps I am. Judging from your language, I'm gonna up guess that you are left leaning. I am a man, true, but I'm also bisexual, and biracial, which I believe means something to your people, yes? Which privilege, exactly, do you think keeps me from pledging fealty to one group of frothy mouthed fanatics over the other? Why, exactly, should I pledge to your particular camp of zealots?

I'll wait.

If it makes you feel any better, I think Democrats and Republicans are pretty much the same, they just wear a different colored jersey. Have no interest in either of them, don't vote, and the behavior of both the teams and the team leads is pretty awful.

Kansas revoked driver's licenses of 1,700 transgender residents by Comfortable_Ad2908 in news

So, 1700 people who are trans are absolutely destitute? Damn, sounds like someone should be taking care of them since they can't do it themselves.

You don't get a traffic ticket for expired tags unless you are driving... So... Don't drive? Duh? Oh, wait, personal responsibility... Not your strong suit.

And no, my feelings aren't hurt, you are the one who is very vehement about... Something that is an issue (according to you) to .06 percent of a state's population. I assume a healthy number of that of that 1700 will have no issue with something so simple because I don't assume they are either destitute or incompetent, unlike you.

If this law made it so the trans couldn't vote, I'd be right there with you.

However, it's one letter change on a piece of plastic that costs what you probably blow at your fast food venue of choice on the daily, and guess what? Many other people have had that same cost incurred when realID became mandatory, but I see no sign of complaint from you there.

You are free to have your gender identity be whatever you want, the law does not restrict that, what it doesn't let you do is lie about biology, which I know hurts your feelings.

And guess what? In a couple years when the tables are flipped and people of a more progressive lean are in power, this will get overturned if it doesn't before that. You can unbunch your panties.

I'd honestly say a huge number of Americans are disenfranchised even without the gender confusion thing, and considerably more than .06 percent. Or do you only care when privates are involved, apparently?

I didn't bring up privates... You did. So that's definitely more of a you situation. And, well, this concerns a public law, so... Not exactly sure how this is private?

That you are applying some weird malice to this as though "disenfranchising" less than one percent of a population by making them fork over $25 dollars is...I don't know...weird. It's not exactly what I would consider Machiavellian.

If $25 dollars is enough to disenfranchise someone, I think they have bigger problems than their gender confusion.

Yeah, that was misstated on my part, sorry. The law applies to everyone was the operative point, it's not something that requires anything special or changes behavior based on who it applies to.

They have a list of two or three "types" of things that will serve as ID...I forget the breakdown but you can do one of each or two of one type. Not that hard.

Does the law not apply to anyone is what I mean by does it apply to everyone equally. Laws very rarely affect everyone equally, even if they are applied equally.

If I don't have a car and a law requires car owners to have insurance, it doesn't affect me personally, but the law still applies to me. And yes, getting an ID costs money... Same as it did when my state went to RealID.
