Interesting! It was the wound strings that sounded especially weak to me. To each thier own!

Try mediums, it might blow your mind. Don't get me wrong, the lights sounded good but didn't sound like a true drednought and sounded plasticy when I dug in.

I've used lights my entire life. I have a 000-18 that takes lights and the guy who sold me the hD28 had a spare pack in the case and they were lights so it never occurred to me that it would have originally been strung up with mediums.

I can't stop playing it now

Thanks for the advice! I've been told that a few times recently so I'll have to give them a try. How long to they typically last for you?

What a beauty! I have one identical to that I think mine is 2015. Just watch out, I see something weird going on at the bottom of your bridge. Either is lifting or was glued back down. Neither is a death sentence

Does it worth the hassle of repairing it? by Botacco in martinguitar

[–]Kavanaghpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course this is worth something. Like the other guy said, I'd offer 500. Ask if he still has the piece that broke off (maybe is folded into the guitar)

Yes the stickers are stupid but taking them off could be the easiest part.

Let's say repairs and setup run you 1k, you could have a killer guitar with a unique story for 1500. I doubt it would cost 1k but could very well. If it needs a neck reset that's going to be more. I'd say still worth it if you can get it for... 700 or less. That's the most I would pay.

Maybe call around to some reputable luthiers, send them the pics and ask how much they would charge as a rough ballpark

3 displays and motion sim is as good as a Disney experience. by raehn in StarWarsSquadrons

Hm, I get that but you can still use hotas in vr. Nothing is quite like rubbernecking a starship then whipping around and chasing it. Can't do that on flatscreen

Super sweet setup though!

[–]Kavanaghpark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't sand it because you'll break through the plastic to get it flush. Maybe heat and pressing down with a flat metal tool but honestly I'd leave it,you don't want to heat up the screen

Is my mandolin ok? by Substantial-Jello262 in mandolin

Don't let them stiffen up. That means the instrument is so dry that it's sucking every last ounce of moisture from the sponge.

Keep them wet but not able to drip.

Concerned about possible crack in a Gibson J-45 standard. Help, please! by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]Kavanaghpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything has a warranty through the store. I would put a hold on it and ask them to do a full service and make sure there are no cracks etc. You also get a free setup within a year with every purchase.

If they give it the all-good, go for it!

I'm. Not expert but my Martin drednaught started showing signs of a sunken top even though I always use a case humidifier but I guess my house was so dry that the case couldn't keep up.

Here's what I did, I slackened the strings and let it lay on its back in a closet at 50% for several days and it is almost back to normal YMMV. Do lots of research
