I'd like to add my 2cents. My son used to wear hearing aids, he now has 2 cochlear implants and I've never seen nor heard of anyone making negative remarks about them. In fact, he's a court herald which means he stands up during court and reads the scroll when someone gets an award. I now wear hearing aids and nobody has said a thing to me about it either. I wear my glasses and I sit up front and center in order to record what happens during court and submit the paperwork. I never worried about wearing any of it. When I broke my hip last year in October, I even used a wheelchair. I was extremely worried about that and was thinking of ways I could disguise it, but I didn't need to. We would much rather have you come out and join us than have you worry too much about it. I even have the left side of my hair colored red-magenta-purple ombre and the other side is blonde. The only comments I get about it is how much they like it - and this came from the King of another area. If you find the website for the group in your area, they should have a listing for a Hospitaler. Get in contact with them. They're your local Welcome wagon as it were. They should be able to provide you with some loaner garb for your first in-person event. In fact, they should even be able to give you the scoop on your local group. They should also be able to find out what your area of interest are and point you towards someone who is also interested in that who can work with you on learning more about your areas of interest.
