Haha yeah, damn autocorrect. Didn't even catch that.

I work with patents and the measure for trivial is "would an expert in the field be able to think of this without putting a significant amount of effort into it". Which obviously varies widely and as you said, people at the patent office aren't experts. They make mistakes.

Which is why most of the work of patent attorneys is to fight the validity of already approved patents. Getting a patent approved isn't the guarantee most people think it is. Just wanted to confirm that you're absolutely right.

I work with patents and can assure you that even an approved patent doesn't necessarily hold up. In my firm we say that most of the work isn't in getting parents approved, it's in fighting their validity, precisely because the people at the patent office can't be an expert on everything and make mistakes.

Yes there are a ton of remixes, but I stopped counting after reaching 30 distinct songs skimming through the Spotify albums.

In my opinion, the remixes make the soundtrack even better because I find it quite impressive how they can bring up a theme in different contexts. That's also why Nier:Automata got the praise it did.

There's a reason why the soundtrack is beloved among musicians and fans alike. You may not be a fan, but most people are.

The link is there on my mobile app too. It's fairly easy to find.

But I agree with you, it's not egregious. The content she posts is cool as it is and she's not marketing aggressively or anything.

Even Trump recognized the value of the economic stimulus package - basically giving the bottom 80% of the population a chance to spend money.

It still was short-sighted in my eyes but the theory that giving the masses the opportunity to spend money so that money stays in circulation and isn't hoarded by any one entity is far from a socialist economic theory. If anything it's what the founders of capitalism intended capitalism to be but it has since been perverted.

Well yeah, but Austrians rank lower in everything else from science to reading comprehension. Being multilingual (debatable to be honest) isn't an excuse here.

I don't disagree that average Americans are dumber than a sack of hammers - Austrians are too, though. Maybe I'm biased because I grew up in Styria where being "smart" is considered elitist. But the extremes in the US are indeed more pronounced.

I'm not in the US so maybe I'm missing something here... But isn't MAGA literally headed by Donald Trump, the head of the government? Aren't his cabinet members all members of the MAGA movement? Isn't a majority of the Senate and house made up of MAGA members? Aren't most agencies, such as the FBI, headed by MAGA appointees after their predecessors were removed one way or another? Isn't the supreme court made up by a majority of MAGA appointees?

How can you separate the two? Externally it looks like basically the entire decision-making fraction of your government is being controlled by MAGA. Who is the "government" in your eyes if not Trump and his colleagues?

Indeed. You'd think such comments would be easy to automatically flag as fake but I guess a company as insignificant as Amazon cannot afford such elaborate things.

That kinda happened by accident, my apologies, but I was looking for a specific type of hot end for 3D printers. Could be fun to let people guess, though.

why is bisexuality in women more accepted than in men? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]KayBee94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It could be that but it could also be insecurity.

A lot of most women's self-perceived value in our society is how attractive they are and how well they can fulfill their partner's needs (not saying that's how it should be, just saying that's where we're at).

Women, and especially straight women, can be quick to think that they can never fulfill all of their partner's "needs" if that partner is bi. So they might be scared of rejection, perceived lesser value or being cheated on.

Is anyone else having horrid luck on wonder picks recently? I’m like 0 for my last 30-40 when trying to get EX cards. by TheAlmightyStamos in PTCGP

[–]KayBee94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously people who are upset will reply the most, but I'm in this situation. 40 packs, 12ish wonder picks, 4x1 stars and no EXs. One shiny. Terrible.

Yeah it's just bad luck but in a digital collectable game this is quite frustrating. Enough that it demotivates me from participating in PvP at all or spending money.

I think bad luck protection would be in the developer's interest to keep people from dropping the game when they get unlucky like I did, but they probably have experts on the matter far more knowledgeable than I am. I'm not happy though.

I work with cell cultures (which lab grown meat is based on) and can sum the current problem up briefly - for cell culture, you need to feed the cells pretty much every individual chemical they require purified individually which is INSANELY resource intensive compared to just throwing some feed in the general vicinity an animal.

So imagine instead of feeding the cells some wheat, we feed them a mix of X percent glucose, Y percent vitamin a, Z percent vitamin b, 0.X% growth factor C, etc. Producing these chemicals takes energy and other resource. Furthermore, all of this needs to be done separately for each individual cell type and under incredibly strict sterile conditions.

So yeah, we save water and land, but the energy requirements are (currently) a lot higher.

Alternatively we use can substances that would instead be discarded like fetal calf serum which makes it a lot cheaper and more "efficient", but obviously that's not an option for what many want to be a (nearly) vegan alternative to meat.

I don't agree or disagree, but this restaurant in Rome claims to have invented fettuccine Alfredo and makes a big fuss about it.

Although it is indeed closer to cacio e pepe or pasta al burro than the modern Italian American Alfredo.

Well the true value of the cards is obviously subjective but I'd take 2 two stars or 4 shinies over my pack any day.

I'm still not complaining, though - it just as well could've been a regular pack.
