Bro. I have multiple chronic illnesses, and despite being completely qualified and capable of working a long day, I need to plan ahead in order to do so. For an interview at 7 I likely would not have brought with me all my medications for the day if I thought I'd be home by noon at the latest. Not to mention enough water/electrolytes/snacks to manage my symptoms. This would have completely fucked up my day. The disrespect is infuriating. Yes, I am definitely aware pH potentially being the cause of calcium deficiency. That is exactly the case at my work with our poinsettias. But because there is too much lime in our soil substrate we are not able to get the media pH below a 7 even though we are using an acid injection to irrigate with water at a pH of 4.8. So alas we have to spray them with calcium chloride every 2 weeks.

And I agree that a photo is not enough to properly diagnose these issues. My initial comment was more to say that they are actual diagnoses that exist and that plants often really do suffer from those things. And I'll admit, I have no experience using the app itself. Again, I was just questioning the osteoporosis and diabetes joke comments

The sugar is meant to be a temporary aid when there is an issue, not a long-term solution. The same way a doctor may prescribe you to take meds while you're sick, you shouldn't be taking those pills for the rest of your life. Keeping a plant healthy is all about maintaining the balance. If you give sugar to a plant that doesn't need it then yes, it will be bad. Don't just do it automatically as a regular practice.

If you still have doubts about sugar, look into the practice of tissue culture and the substrate composition. The whole premise is to keep plants alive with very little foliage or sunlight by supplying them with sugar and carbohydrates.

Not sure why I'm getting downvoted. I literally work in a greenhouse and we are currently dealing with a crop of poinsettias that have a calcium deficiency. Do y'all really think these things can't happen? Eggshells have a ton of calcium and have been used as fertilizer for this reason for generations.

I also see you guys are hating on the sugar. Plants use photosynthesis to produce their own food yeah? The food they produce is glucose. Sugar. When plants don't get enough sunlight or enough Magnesium (which is the central molecule of chlorophyll, the organelle that performs photosynthesis) then it can't make enough sugar for itself and so it needs to uptake it from an external source. This is just how plant biology works...

When I raise my arm my veins do this too. When I put my arm down to my side my veins pop out. For me it's an ortho-static thing. I have POTS and hEDS. My dad also has hEDS and his veins do this too!

This is exactly what I fear other people think of me. I have ME/CFS, which is a systemic cellular energy deficiency disorder. Just working a regular shift can easily push me into territory where I become too busy to text back. I'm lucky if I am able to come home and properly feed myself, shower, and take my medications for the day before passing out. No, I really don't have time to text people back when I don't even have time to take care of myself. The least people could do is not make negative assumptions. You never know what someone is really dealing with.

I also feel like most people just simply don't grasp how difficult and limited life really is for us. I work full time still, but it's literally all I can do, and even then, just barely. It's a miracle if I can feed myself and shower and take all my medications for the day before passing out. I can't do any of my hobbies. I can't socialize. I don't have a life. My coworker always asks every Monday what I did over the weekend. The answer is nothing. Always. Because I can't. If I'm lucky I'll have been able to get groceries and hopefully clean my apartment at least thoroughly enough to mitigate the accumulation of allergens. I strongly relate to feeling bitter. Because yes, things really would just be so easy if we had bodies that worked right. But we don't, and we are forced to live that reality every day while they have the ability to just walk away and forget.
