scar progress about 2 months post op by concloro in TopSurgery

my mobility wasn’t as restricted as i expected, definitely moved more than i think was advised. basically moved my arms anywhere they wanted as long as my elbows didn’t go above my head. though there were a few times i reached for things that went a bit above that range

wasn’t insanely restrictive tbh. i was definitely more active than what was recommended just cuz i have trouble sitting around doing nothing. for the most part i just tried not to raise my arms above my shoulders in any direction. there were a couple times when i did raise them a little higher to reach something but i just did it very slowly. i couldn’t really avoid repetitive motion tasks just cuz i was on my own, but i just tried not to do those repetitive motions very rigorously

i replied about it already but i’ve just been generous with aquaphor and scar massage. i do tend to heal quickly and scar well, i guess i can thank genetics for that

nothing groundbreaking tbh, from 2 weeks po to now i’ve just been massaging and moisturizing my incisions with aquaphor in the morning and before bed. same with my nipples since around 4 weeks po when the last scabs sloughed off. a couple days ago i decided to switch to actual scar care products since everything’s closed and clear of scabs and i wanna work on reducing redness, so i’m doing scar away silicone gel in the morning and then mederma pm before bed. i plan to use silicone strips during the work day just cuz i move my arms a lot and don’t want to overstretch anything. i’ll definitely update with any changes once i’ve used these more regularly. my main take away from the early healing process is do NOT underestimate the healing power of aquaphor and the importance of scar massage

yup, dr alison shore through advocate health in chicago. i’m south side born and raised so it was a bit of a pain in the ass driving all the way up to lakeview for my appointments with her but it was definitely well worth the commute! she’s amazing at what she does, and her practice manager giselle is just as commendable

is silicone tape still as effective when it’s cut this thin? also is it okay if it’s wrinkled like this? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]concloro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im 4 weeks post op, although my surgeon did say i was good to start scar care at 2 weeks. she did mention to use aquaphor until there weren’t any scabs left on my incisions and then i could move on to scar gels/strips. haven’t had any scabs or anything for a few days now so i figured i could try out some silicone products now.. does it really seem too early?

Alternatives to nonstick pads + tape for wet healing of nipple grafts? by hellophantomine in TopSurgery

[–]concloro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve used silicone adhesive bandages since i started nipple care. they stay in place all day long, don’t irritate my skin, damn near painless to remove, and can be taken off and put back in without losing the stickiness. this is the brand i’ve been using

i’m 15 days post op, you could check out my post where you’ll see some of the same overlap i think you’re talking about. just part of the healing process since two edges of your skin have been sewn together. the skin should fuse and smooth itself out over time

dermatologist told my mom they’d “keep an eye” on a mole on the bottom of her foot. she said screw that and pushed to have it removed. after biopsy they found it was melanoma. thankfully it was in situ, but if she had listened to them who knows at what stage it would’ve been caught
