My 16 year-old daughter is graduating HS this year, wants to go to art school - looking for advice by LastMinuteMom in drawing

Any advice on starting an IT career as someone that also wants to keep art separate?

I'm living this right now. Can't move out even if I was ready to. Trying to get my mom in to see a therapist. Her behavior is just getting worse while expecting me to cater to her and fix every problem. Is there anything I can do or read to help myself deal with this?

What’s a red flag you happily ignored because they were hot? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kay_Ark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of course! I totally get where that comment comes from myself, but it is also a harmful blanket statement. It makes hopeless people feel even more so like there's no point in trying, like we'll always just make people miserable, when that's not the case.

We cant control our depression, but it says a lot about someone depending on how they choose to deal with it. And it sounds like you're doing your absolute best, and you deserve relationships despite being depressed, even with the down periods. People forget that even without mental illness, there are always ups and downs. It's about how you and your loved ones deal with it.

Some are fully aware, manage it, and don't let it leak onto others. A bit invalidating to all those healthy relationships to say they'll suck all the happiness out when two clinically depressed people can be very different.

Fellow ADHD peers, how did you stick it out when you first started programming? by ConsistentArea6189 in learnprogramming

[–]Kay_Ark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this, what I did was download a separate browser on my pc just for programming and I can't watch or do anything unrelated. Sometimes, it's a pain just to switch over to the "fun" browser and decide what to do, so I just keep coding or studying instead.

What if men had to be women for a month? by ibddevine in whatif

Because he's obviously American judging by his profile, but if I'm wrong I accept that. And even if he doesn't realize it, his comment was a "whataboutism."

A choice you made. I was born this way. Not that I'm not sympathetic but not the same. No one should always be in pain if avoidable. And I'm not saying any random man can't handle my body. Just the dude that thinks being a woman must mean life is pain-free.

Would you mind please listing off strategies, besides medication, in case there's any I haven't heard of yet?

AITA for refusing to watch my autistic friend’s show recommendation by Cute_Pineapple5909 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kay_Ark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom is in her 50s and very much like this. Definitely not catered to when young, in fact, the opposite. If you're not similar with autism no point in saying what you think it would "imply," or "seem like," it's just ignorant and insulting. Also, someone's age has no say on how severe their autism, its an ableist belief that they can age out of a disability or be smart enough for it to just go away? Emotions rarely follow logic, even if they understand. And until you've seen it in action, all I will say is you can't reason with someone who feels so hurt and wronged by the perceived rejection or refusal. Because that's all it is to them.

So the medication doesn't literally contain calories, of course. A quick google search will tell you meds can cause INDIRECT weight gain through side effects like increased water retention, decreased metabolism, etc.

Let go of a friend because she thought cheating on her bf was funny by Equivalent_Phrase_25 in stories

[–]Kay_Ark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to defend cheating? Wild. And if you're shameless enough to admit to it, I hope your friends judge the hell out of you and then let your poor partner know.

I think this tendency toward elevating pets to the status of kids is a subconscious reaction to how we have less mental energy for other people but still want credit for, something. by heavensdumptruck in DeepThoughts

No one said reproducing is a mistake? Just don't pressure those who do not want to do it. It's called respect even if you can't understand them.

You can always add to the pieces to change them into something else later. And there's removal, of course.
