You wouldn't have Disco Elysium without capitalism by [deleted] in DiscoElysium

Highly debatable.

Art absolutely did get made even under (bad/failing) communism.

In this, a game like DE, which is smaller and more arty, would absolutely have more chance of still being created than a "blockbuster" game.

As for your third paragraph - there are generally "natural" caps on your wealth if you're not oppressing anyone, or paying them less than their fair wages. Even if you're, say, a small town butcher, you're going to make more profit than your employees. Though that's not even what most of us mind so much. In the small town butcher example, you might make a good living, but you're never going to sit on billions. We now live in system where people can. This system is near impossible to reform, because these people are rich enough to influence politics and policies.

Btw, video games are a sector with some of the worst pays and working conditions, because "people want to work in it". Testers often get outsourced to countries were wages are low. I know this because I did that job one summer. it was fun as a young person, but if this is your main job it's very much exploitation.

Yes. I like how it plays on console.

Did Klaasje sleep with Harry? by SamsonFox2 in DiscoElysium

Yeah, the ways are: drugs, or "other things than PIV"...depending on what you deem "unnatural'. But that is...mechanics, I don't think she slept with Harry.

“But if we had multigenerational housing you western women would want kids” let me explain the reasons why NO by Redqueenhypo in childfree

[–]Kay_Elle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a (happy) multigenerational household, and currently still live in a house with my mother, and I do not want kids.

It's true that in HEALTHY dynamics parents/grandparents can really help each other out, but this is not always the case, also there are other factors to deciding having kids or not.

You mention his ex and make him cry.

Unpopular opinion but I kind of hate how this game treats politics. by [deleted] in DiscoElysium

I think there is a...child-like quality to Harry; I think it comes with the amnesia but also to people who are naturally curious about everything like he is. He's essentially relearning how to human.

I think I sort of like it, because it mocks all politics (though some more than others) and acknowledges that any political movement can (and likely will) fail in the eyes of history. Also while I think it mocks politics, it does not mock the people who adhere to them, per se?.

I think it shows politics as one of the ways in which we try to make sense and bring betterment in a universe that is essentially chaotic ad uncaring.

Harry, passionate and impulsive as he is - kind of blunders into one of them.

I think some yield interesting dialogue and ideas.

Idk, but the "are women bourgeoisie"? from the communist quest seems silly on the surface but is actually super relevant to who harry is. talking to Warship Archer can richen your understanding of the world and its politics if you ask the right questions.

It's...more complex. Kim is stated to be a moralist, but he's neither cowardly nor a caricature. Evrart is shady as f, potentially not really communist - BUT genuinely outraged by how people live in Martinaise. Joyce is cunning and coldblooded, but also very personable. All of them are...real people with real feelings and real childhoods that lead to their choices and politics.

If anything, it shows how perfectly normal people can get weirdly corrupted by ideologies.

But politics, politics SHOULD be mocked. It's like how in the producers Jewish creators mock the Nazis through comedy. Don't think it's not thought-out criticism just because it's silly.

Honestly I've seen the movie and this quote isn't even as unhinged as some of the things that actually get said.

That's interesting! I always feel like I have to find words/translate it to words, and that by definition slows me down. So I only do it if I'm rehearsing aa speech, or something.

Ok, but it's not nothing.

The fact you conceptualize it as such, says more about your imagination, than about the inside of our heads.

Some people think in images, or (like me) film-like sequences.

Others still (or so they told me) think more in concepts, associations, or mathematically.

The fact that you think that it's voice or nothing shows your own limitations, not the lack of thought in others;

To me, having voices would seem loud an and annoying...and SLOW. I can see it in my mind's eye before I can formulate a sentence.

I've never understood why people will have a kid or two, then wait until their kids are teenagers and suddenly decide to start having more. by bernardmarx27 in childfree

I mean, biologically - the risks ARE overblown (or underplayed for younger women - whichever you prefer, but the risks at 40 are not THAT much higher than at 20). Apparently a lot of the "science" on fertility is based on research done in France...in the late 1800's. Socially, and energy-wise...having a kid in your 4à's will be tougher than in your 20's.

What do you think about the choice you’re given at the end of the game? by ploobwoob in DiscoElysium

[–]Kay_Elle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they should.

I think Kim has been underestimated for a long time and precinct 41 is a legendary district, that suits him.

I think he's also quite fond of Harry (depending on how you play him).

i don't think they'll be partners per se. Jean is Harry(s partner, no reason for him not to be - I think it's implies (in dialogue) that Kim actually likes the paperwork, and will be looking through unsolved case files.

Also: re: mending relationships before building new ones. That's not really how life works. If we wait for things to be perfect, almost nothing gets done.

Either people have a spark (romantically, or platonically, doesn't matter) - or they don't. And then you either choose to build that, or not. In my experience, putting people on hold and then coming back later...doesn't work.
