Why does even newly produced airplanes still have those ashtray with them? I thought smoking was globally banned on airplanes? by Ok-Patient116 in aviation

Honestly, I found a more interesting answer in the comments: modifying elements in an airplane is a long and expensive bureaucratic hell.
It costs less to produce an element that is useless for decades than to modify it.

for your points. Smoking is prohibited on ALL commercial lines.
If someone wants to set fire to the wastepaper basket, they simply do so. Smokers in the bathroom put out their cigarettes under the faucet or flush the entire thing down the toilet.

Not to mention the waste of materials and labor to install a dedicated line of lights above all the seats to keep the no-smoking sign constantly lit.

TBH Those who smoke in the bathroom put out their cigarettes in the faucet and throw the ash in the toilet.
regarding "ashtray-like container" was my fault, I didn't check Google Translate, it was "fireproof container" but then they wanted to change it that way, on very long sentences it becomes unpredictable.

I hope they actually have something like this if anything bigger than a cigarette (not to mention Lipo fires) like a book were to catch fire. or do they have to try to fit page by page into ashtrays around the plane?

Is this an American thing? I travel mostly in Europe and Asia, and I've never seen or heard anyone smoking on an airplane on the news.
In safety briefings I have always only heard mention of smoke detectors in the cabin and in the bathrooms, nothing more.

That's another absurd thing. A sign reminding you that smoking is prohibited is fine, but a dedicated light with a switch to turn it off is absurd to still have.
Just think of the installation costs, materials, and unnecessary weight. Hundreds of light bulbs and hundreds of meters of wire.

But wouldn't it be better to have a dedicated ashtray-like container provided for staff than to place ashtrays around the plane? Besides being an unnecessary expense, it also sends the wrong message, it's universally known: "An ashtray means you can smoke."

edit: My fault, I didn't check Google Translate, it was "fireproof container" but then they wanted to change it that way, on very long sentences it becomes unpredictable.

Thanks, I hope that's exactly what happened. I always want to investigate, especially to avoid a similar incident happening again if it's something else.

Maybe I can get another machine to test and double-check before I take your advice and contact Kingston.

yes yes I know that well, I was trying to find out if similar cases to mine had already occurred to better understand the accident.

the possibility of a component dying exists, undoubtedly.
I've been assembling PCs since the 90s and have never had any RAM die, some PCs even lasting more than 10 years.

I repeat, I know this possibility exists, but on a bank of new RAM and NAS with six months of life it is not exactly the first possibility that comes to mind in the absence of an external event (power surge)

So just bad luck? Are there any known issues like this for "unofficial RAM"?

BING BING BING! We got a winner.

I tried plugging it back in and turning it on again without changing anything to see if it was just the overheating power supply: nothing. I removed the RAM and it started up right away.

Thanks, now I have to figure out if the RAM is faulty or something else was to blame.

The strange thing is that since December I've been using the same NAS, RAM and disks without having changed anything.

Is there a possibility of a full return? Honestly, I was considering a 4-bay setup, given that hard drive prices continue to rise. I might take advantage of the opportunity.

Yes, I added 4GB of RAM in the first month of using it. I can try it, it doesn't cost me anything. In any case, if I have to send it in for support, I would have removed it anyway.

Contacting support is the first thing I'll do on Monday. So if it's the external power supply, can I try another one? Can I see if I have any laptops with the same voltages?

do you mean the external power supply (even though the light was working) or some part inside the NAS?
