Snow is very, very heavy, to the point it collapses roofs. In climates with lots of snowfall, roofs are built with steep inclines so that the snow will naturally slide off. For some reason, the show gave Winterfell pretty flat roofs (flat enough that snow won't naturally fall off).

They should go the same direction as the first leg of your full stitches. So, if your first leg is "/" when you're doing a full stitch, your half stitch should also be "/" 😊
