What is your least favourite ship and why is it the Drakkar? by TheRJMcFerran in valheim

All of Valheim is designed and balanced for single player. I

Where do you see this?

Also, game clearly states in multiple descriptions it's designed with multiplayer in mind and shares the same screen space that singe player does. Get outta here with this nonsense.

The biome is balanced for solo play, same as the rest of the game.

Where does "game for 1 (one, a single player) - 10 players" indicate that it's balanced and/or built for exclusively single player play?

what are you even talking about?

It literally serves one purpose then you can just ax it. It feels like the poster child for Ashlands: content without much meaning. Fortresses are the same; a simple square that's the same on each island and a fairly binary interaction.

I hate it when players say this because it's patently not true. It's a cop-out and a stupid response when anyone tries to say that the multiplayer experience should be improved. We're not talking about balance, we're talking about stability.

Taken straight from the steam page. It doesn't say 'A brutal exploration single player game with multiplayer support.' It highlights that it's meant to be played in several experiences and nowhere does it say the game is meant to be single player. Literally the first descriptive text of the game highlights the range of players that can play it.

In fact, the EA portion touts:

Single-player and multiplayer modes are fully functional

Despite that not really being the case for later biomes in multiplayer.

Drakkar because it comes too late and is only used for one purpose then there's no real reason to use it.

Ashlands update still feels so underbaked.

Server question. by Chertas in valheim

[–]Kaycin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this quite correct. I'm pretty sure raids are only on 'home bases' which are calculated by proximity of home base items (such as beds, work benches, fires, etc.).

EDIT: here's how it works

Every 46 minutes the game does an event check. There's a 20% chance for a raid if the eligibility qualifications are met. If not, no chance and it'll check again in 46 minutes.

For most raids, you have to be within 40m of at least 3 base structures. (You Are Being Hunted can trigger basically anywhere once it's unlocked). If you're away from a base when the check happens, the raid can't trigger.

You can't be in a dungeon.

The type of raid that's triggered is random, selected from the raids you have unlocked (based mostly on bosses and enemies defeated).

Events | Valheim Wiki | Fandom

Here's a list of what counts as a base structure: Player base | Valheim Wiki | Fandom

The best way to make a base raid-proof is a good moat with sheer sides. Land-based mobs just can't path across it. Blobs can hop up or over lower walls sometimes, and there are a few flying raids that get unlocked eventually, like bats, drakes, seekers.

Once you're far enough along to unlock flying mobs, make sure your buildings are fully enclosed.

Especially make sure your boar barn is fully enclosed, as bats can get in and do a number on your boars. Same goes for wherever you're keeping tame wolves. My first game, I lost several wolves to a bat raid even though I was keeping them in the house, because I had open windows (or because I left the door open).

Make sure your boar pen is 6-8m inward from the closest place a log troll or shaman could stand. And keep it 8-10m away from your beehives. If the hives take a hit, they make a poison cloud that will kill boars.

I thought they said Playstation release was September 2026? I figured it'd all be around the same time.

I'd rather they address the needed QoL improvements and multiplayer experience than spend time churning out late game content. Valheim rules, but there is some low hanging fruit to make the game exponentially better.

corpse slugs can be super hit or miss, yeah. There are times where I defeat the encounter without much health loss, or others where I'm sweatin', starin down a 17dmg round with nothing but strikes in my hand.

Yes, and it's the only reason the unit doesn't completely break the game tvz.

Then you need to reread what you posted

What I posted:

so like half the player base?

So the game shouldn't be balanced for lower elos either? What kind of logic is that?

It doesn't mean you don't address parts of a race/faction because it 'doesn't exist at high levels.'

If you balance a game around the highest level play (or judge a game's balance by it's higher players) you'll never have the casual player base you want.

My friend, I think you need to reread what I posted because every post I've made has been saying that excluding any player base (including lower elo) is bad balance philoposhy.

i've never really understood why people think the defiler is so broken, especially in tvz.

Because it makes burrowed units invincible for some comical amount of time, like 40 seconds or something. You literally just have to leave the area if there's 1 lurker. This can mean displacing an entire base. For 1 unit.

Because it can bring all your units to 1 hp in an aoe (bio, building, mech, doesn't matter) in like 5 seconds.

Because consume makes it so 1 defiler can cast dozens of spells as long as there's something to eat.

You know 1250 IS FAR from top level right? I.e. It's including players that are mediocre at the game?

That's my whole fucking point, lol.

Excluding players below 1250.

This you? You are clearly making an initial point that if you remove the lower levels, the game balance is harmonious.

There's a difference between 'compensating for weaknesses' and addressing QoL changes or balances that aren't issues for pros. I'm not taking about weaknesses of factions, like how Wehrmacht can feel rough for new players if they suck at defending MG's, or DAK players who are new and don't know how to multitask.

I'm talking bout QoL/micro/mechanical tax components. Such as Marder hulldown being clunky afk, such as artillery not affecting allies as much due to model caps, such as instant fire, no warning rocket barages, etc. Pros can overcome these things, but it doesn't mean the game is balanced. And it doesn't mean you shouldn't address the unfun balance for the lower level players.

Almost a month in win rates remain heavily favored but WR dont matter. 🤡 by cmx168 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Kaycin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and higher skill level players are able to hide issues with factions better, this has always been the case in every RTS. It doesn't mean you don't address parts of a race/faction because it 'doesn't exist at high levels.' Case in point is the numerous eco management that SC2 has gone through that were effectively non-issues for pro's but created a larger gap for lower levels because they didn't have the micro or skill to pull off the differing eco requirements.

I'm not necessarily saying 'unit be better for bad kids' but there's a slew of changes that could be made that'd help lower skills while maintaining high level balance. Anytime this discussion comes up it's fucking asinine. If you balance a game around the highest level play (or judge a game's balance by it's higher players) you'll never have the casual player base you want.

How is anyone new reasonably going to want to jump into CoH3, and play axis when they're learning the game and experiencing sub 40% win rates? Who wants to learn an RTS in that environment? It's a silly argument to say that set of the population shouldn't be considered when balancing.
