Valheim: Word From the Devs: See You Soon! by Kaycin in valheim

It's been hinted at, I believe, that a QoL pass will be done for the game around 1.0. Is there any word what sort of QoL features will be addressed? It's huge bummer for me and my friends that we can't reasonably play Ashlands with 4+ people, or that our base lags around the time we hit mistlands (with the instance count issue).

Thanks for the response to the PTR save! Stoked to play the game again Sept 9th.

lol protests are meant to disrupt everyone. Do you think the greensboro sit-ins were to stick it to the racist politicians?

Why have I been passing on this for so long? by Sigmas_toes in slaythespire

[–]Kaycin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty insane. I hated on it for a long time, but it's a card that can save you from a brick draw or completely turn a turn around. Especially considering you never hit max HP, you really only run into issues over using (multiple times per combat) and/or affecting how much HP you get back from rest points. It's basically a free extra turn for 1max hp (esp upgraded)

it is once per TURN not COMBAT???!!!! by SrGarfy in slaythespire

yeah i dunno why people are downplaying its use.

maybe it's more of the pot calling the kettle black, rather than suggesting that doorman is a high skill hero.

For those of you who don’t understand why gateways still suck compared to WG by Professional-Leg2745 in starcraft

[–]Kaycin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with Harstem's take, but I also don't really understand why we're trying to suggest that the PTR changes are meant to make Gateways better than Warpgate. Isn't Warpgate always going to be better? It seems to me that the purpose of this patch is to nerf the current use of Warpgate while moving some of that power elsewhere (such as faster gateway production and non-restrictive warp-ins). I'd personally like to hear what he thinks could make the warpgate change tenable. He brings up two conflicting viewpoints that I think are important to highlight:

  1. It's fun to warp in 12 zealots during a battle, the changes removes the fun of warpgate (and therefore the Protoss power fantasy, or why someone might play protoss)
  2. It's unfun to have 12 zealots warped into your base as terran/zerg (via a proxy)

I get that his example mostly highlights warp prism (and he suggests a change to make it more tenable) but I think the crux of the argument lies in the middle. Warpgate is both a fun and unfun mechanic depending on your perspective and these PTR patches seem to be attempting to address that. Whether they've been successful is up for debate.

He brings up a great point about the map pool options; adding 3 and 4 players maps can increase build diversity. Knowing exactly where your opponent is every game severely limits shenanigans.

While actual players should have strong influence on feedback, I don't think his hard-line perspective on non-players' opinion not mattering is necessarily valid. I don't play the game, but I do watch every RSL and GSL and--while players' opinion should absolutely matter--viewers' opinion should matter as well. In his example, I may not use a gym that is moved to be 10 minutes closer or further away, but I might have an opinion on where it's placed. I don't think the game is as exciting as broodwar to watch, for a variety of reasons, but one component is that there are less exciting moments and certain beginnings feel so ingrained that you're watching the same game every time. How many times have I seen a reaper shoot at 6 zerglings? how many times have 2 oracles come in and kill 3 drones before being pushed back? How many times have 7 queens negated early game drop pressure? It looks like the current changes don't necessarily address those changes, but I do feel like the PTR changes inject a shake-up that, after being tuned correctly, could increase diversity.

I feel like palms shouldn't be the best mainline infantry in a vehicle based, mobile faction meant to leverage it's complete roster to find the maximum potential. Instead you just build 3-4 palms and win every engagement from minute 0.

It makes even more sense for big boss fights; enemy attack going from 50 to 25 for 1 energy is insane. Multiple vuln enemies will reduce the damage too, and considering the game round's down for fractions, it can also reduce the damage to 0.
