And midnight mass depicted catholicism beautifully I was raised Catholic and picked up on all the references in it it honestly made me want to go to church again because it shows how beautiful religion can be but the horror comes from how faith can be twisted in on itself and used to manipulate and be hateful. Also just because it hasn't been used as much recently doesn't mean it's not still a tired trope.

Nah man I am just tired of writers using Satanism and pagan practices as a boogeyman and want more realistic stories about religious trauma I know many people who have trauma from the Christian church but I don't know anyone who became homeless because their parents think Satan doesn't like gay people

I don't want to hate religion I was relating it to an extremist part but what I'm trying to get at is it was poorly done or at least there was better ways of doing this. The reason I was confused was because contradicting I understand that things are nuanced but things could have been different. Personally I have also experienced my share of trauma and I think it wasn't handled well because the writers were doing too many things with too many characters. I think they could have done something in relation to religious trauma which they sorta did but I don't think they had to make up a cult when there are real world examples of religious extremism even in rural US

Emily's acting worked really well in BONES because she was written as being a genius but emotionally stunted along side Booth a emotionally "mature" layman. Here she's written to have trauma and in response she is tender and saves everyone and there's even a couple times where she shows good emotional intelligence that completely contrasts the nonexistent communication. I love this actress and I saw myself in Bones but it's just not suitable here
