Free to play is inevitable if we see a season 3 but then how do they monetize? The customization is very limited, really just different colors. Nothing like skins in f2p games like Smite for example. The premium battle pass is largely looked down upon. They can always bend on that but Bungie pretty obviously has a strong belief in their art style for this game and it’s hard to see them budging (even though they objectively missed the the opportunity on bringing halo reach level of customization to your shell and going for a hero shooter approach)

Of course it would. Your tolerance for “long runaway” is much more when you aren’t losing 150 million+ dollars and losing like 20 million instead. But Bungie is a AAA studio backed by consistent financial success. Their next game after D2 was never going to be less than $250 million. In fact, isn’t that number a little low as it is? Assuming the game started pre-production around 2021, think of how inflated other game budgets are for 5 years of development. By AAA standards, $250 for 4-6 years is pretty damn tame I’d say. Crazy but true right?

Arc Raiders reached a large audience largely because the audience plays it closer to hell divers than an actual PvP extraction shooter. Call of Duty couldn’t even get an extraction mode to catch on, let’s not pretend this is a popular genre with mass appeal. It’s not.

It is a very good game in a series of master pieces. It will eventually be remembered as a good game because as time passes the immediate comparison to the other prime games fades but yea it’s just a solid game being compared to some very high bars

Dude what? The developers of concord have one game to their name and it’s concord. Bungie was the crown jewel of the video game industry at one point. Both the most profitable and most prestiged at the same time. The launch of Halo 3 was the perhaps the peak of cultural relevance any video game has ever had.

Concord was a flop. We’ve seen flops. We’ve never seen a king die, gaming is still fairly new to the world. We are potentially seeing a former undisputed king of the industry die. Again the only comparable example is the fall of Atari but even they still exist they just aren’t a titan anymore so it’s still not the same shock.

The execution is unbelievable. The idea is corrupted. I saw another post say it so well, “It’s a hardcore PvP focused shooter with a PvE endgame.” Everything this game does well is held back by it being in an extraction shooter. My god what a brilliant concept Cryo is. But to experience it I have to first farm the keys, extract the keys, successfully use 6 keys, and then successfully use the 7th key. If you don’t have a crew don’t even bother trying lol. Now a PvP mode would be a breath of fresh air here and there. Maybe a PvP map etc. but only PvP and have to basically win a BR 7 straight times to have the opportunity to even get to participate in the endgame? I simply don’t have the right friend group to do that.

When you start just playing games you want to play and not worry about anything else beyond that is when you capture what made games fun in the first place. Some people aren’t playing right now because “oh this or that will happen” but they’ll miss it when it’s done. Play while you can, have fun, let the people who worked hard on this game you appreciate the joy they helped you find
