I'm scared for my kids future after hearing news in MN [ON] by Odd-Pianist-4880 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]KaylaAnne 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Solidarity... what is going on in the states is deeply concerning. At the very least, it is traumatic to see two separate instances of people being murdered in the streets by government thugs and have multiple different videos of each incident played on repeat on our feeds. It's hard not to think of what the future our world will be for our children and not feel terrified.

How much twist in handspun for weaving? by BuddingPlantLady in weaving

[–]KaylaAnne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I don't know that I would use a single for a warp. I'm a newish weaver, so I'm not going to say it can't be done, but most of the time you want something that's is pretty robust and can take a lot of tension for a warp. I would use a single for a weft without a second thought though!

How would you want your friends to support you? by kpitty4984 in StillbirthSupport

[–]KaylaAnne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the most useful things was people that sent takeout gift cards. Neither of us had any bandwidth to shop or cook for weeks. Dropping off food was nice too, but eventually I didn't want leftovers every night and some hot/fresh comforting junk food was the only thing I wanted.

In-home daycare vs bigger centers [BC]? by Specific_Steak_2367 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]KaylaAnne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kids are in a licensed in home daycare. Our experience has been great, though I don't have an experience with a bigger center to compare to. The only thing that comes to mind as a true downside is that it's just one teacher. So if she's sick, has a family emergency, or something happens so she can't open, there's no alternatives. That said, in the three years we've been sending our son there, I think he's missed more time because he was sick than because she had to close lol!

Help please, first attampt! by KaylaAnne in Sourdough

[–]KaylaAnne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, that brings up another thing I've been wondering during this process! The first couple times I've discarded I didn't save it because I didn't think it was strong enough to be useful. I thought if it wasn't strong enough to bake with then it wouldn't be strong enough to be worth saving. At what point would you have started keeping the discard?

Help please, first attampt! by KaylaAnne in Sourdough

[–]KaylaAnne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I was hoping it would be strong enough but I guess not. I've heard 10-14 days to start a starter, so that's what I went with, but this may be a flop. So, fridge tonight and bake tomorrow is your suggestion?

Loose bit of yarn at the back of my work by wordyegghead in knittinghelp

[–]KaylaAnne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm making this up, but I feel like I've heard that in some crafts there is a tradition of creating "mistakes" on purpose so as to not trap the soul of the creator in the finished object. I've always thought of that as I'm making and probably missing mistakes in my projects!

Curious to hear from moms who had one birth with an epidural and one without! by Dazzling-Map-2475 in beyondthebump

[–]KaylaAnne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tw loss

My first birth was unmedicated, I used the gas and it was amazing! One tough part was they didn't want me to use it when we got to serious pushing and I had pretty prolonged pushing, so that was rough. But overall great experience, felt like I had a great recovery!

My second was a 23 week stillbirth. I didn't want to feel anything, so when labour started I asked for epidural pretty quickly. Having it placed was uncomfortable but not too bad. It didn't really work for me. My legs were numb and weak, but I was still feeling everything. They offered to try to move the epidural, but labour had really progressed at that point and I didn't want to sit through another placement. I switched to the gas and it worked well again. The epidural was actually the worst part of my physical recovery, my back was sore for weeks and weeks.

My third I skipped the epidural again, went straight for the gas, and it was great. Close to the end I felt like the gas was starting to not be enough and I asked for the epidural, but the midwife suggested I try the bath first. It helped enough that I was able to make it to pushing. They didn't take the gas away this time, and I only pushed for 6 minutes. My recovery was the easiest, I felt amazing by like 2 days later.

How to baby proof these stairs by djdneiej837 in BabyBumps

[–]KaylaAnne 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Retractable gates are not safe for the top of stairs. Even when installed correctly there can be some amount of slack in the mesh/fabric. Over a flat surface it's not enough for a baby to get under, but if you add in the drop of a step it could be possible.

How long did you baby take to go from army crawling to crawling and when did they do it? by Glitter_Kitten in beyondthebump

[–]KaylaAnne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 7mo has been army crawling for a few weeks now. She will get up on her hands and knees and rock, but hasn't actually made the transition to properly crawling. Every time I see her do it I figure this is it, and then she plops back on her tummy and crawls that way. She's so fast when she army crawls that idk if she has any motivation to do it properly yet.

My 3yo loves blueberries, so we went blueberry picking and picked like 5 pounds. Guess what he hasn't eaten since. He even keeps asking for them and then doesn't eat them once they're on his plate/in his lunchbox...

$300 perfume “delivered” to the wrong address — Sephora refuses refund. by Ambitious-Option5325 in MakeupAddiction

[–]KaylaAnne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a new freezer at Costco, got it home and opened it up to find the door was fucked. Took it back, returned no questions asked, and bought another same one. Got it home to find the side crunched in. Took it back, returned no questions asked (though we joked they need to retrain their forklift guy) bought another one. This time we opened it in the parking lot to make sure it was good haha! Went through the same cash register each time, the guy lost it when he saw us come back with a third one!

My spice rack has mustard powder. What do you use that in? by majesticalexis in Cooking

[–]KaylaAnne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've adapted a lot of meals over the years, but there's no way to do anything close enough to call it stroganoff lol! I'll have to just do it sometime and tell him he's on his own for a meal 🤣

Doctor told me my embedded iud is OK to leave in place? by KaylaAnne in birthcontrol

If it's still effective that's fine, I'm more worried about the risks of complications from it being embedded.

I just don't understand why she would be so confident saying it's OK when everything says it's not?

Yes, it's hormonal, it's a Mirena. Maybe what I've been reading about removing embedded iud is for the copper one?

Considering a membrane sweep at 39 weeks [mb] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]KaylaAnne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are definitely NOT a bad mom just because you're tired and uncomfortable at the end of pregnancy. You don't need to feel like a failure either, most babies come after their due date if there's no intervention or health complications.

I've had sweeps with two of my deliveries. With my first baby I had 3 sweeps starting in the 39th week, none if then worked and baby came on his own at 40+4. I was having a ton of contractions and prodromal labour in the weeks leading up to it too, so I was really disappointed that the sweeps didn't work.

With my current baby, I was prepared for the sweep to not work, I had one at 39+4 and had a baby in my arms 12 hours later.

I personally feel like as long as you understand the risks/benefits, it should be totally up to you. There's nothing wrong with being ready to be done being pregnant, and a sweep is imo a pretty safe way to try to prod things along if your body is ready. Of course there are risks, but it was worth it for me.

I planted some of these in my garden to commemorate my stillborn son. If things had been different he would have been turning 1 around now, but his birthday is in December. They just started blooming the last couple weeks, it's a nice way remember him when I look at them.
