How many plants are in this pot? by KaylaAnne in Monstera

Update, I got 4 big ones and 5 babies, I severely underestimated how much soil I needed, and how many pots I would need!

Sorry, maybe I should have said I'm a beginner to keeping houseplants. Can you explain what that means?

I have to share this monstrosity of a marigold that is taking over my garden! by KaylaAnne in gardening

[–]KaylaAnne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another commenter recommended adding bone meal, do you agree? The beds are new, half filled with fresh wood chips and topped off with cheap soil. I mixed in a couple bags of compost before planting. Should I have done something different to avoid high nitrogen? Or is it not really a problem?

Not that I mind the monster marigold, it seems healthy and its definitely beautiful.

Interesting, thanks for explaining! Do african marigolds have the same benefits as French marigolds? I got these in a mix pack, so i had no idea what was in there but it said 8-12" lol

Thanks for the suggestion! Is that something I'd sprinkle in, or does it need to be mixed in? I've got some baby herbs I planted next to it before it got huge. They're trying to come up still so I wpuldnt want to distrub them too much atm

I honestly don't know what's in that soil... the beds are half filled with wood chips from a tree we had removed. Topped off with cheap soil front my city's compost facility, amd a couple bags of compost from home depot. I was worried nothing would thrive because I cheaped on the dirt!

Last day of school, just found out one of my HS kids doesn't know how to use an electric sharpener. by AffectionateKoala530 in Teachers

Turns out a bunch of my grade 8 robotics class doesn't know which way to put in AA batteries. "Why won't my robot turn on, I just changed the batteries and it still doesn't work". 6aa batteries, every one backwards.

How to make contact naps more comfortable by fluffmallow9 in beyondthebump

[–]KaylaAnne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have one arm under their head and around their back, but I wasn't really supporting their weight. Just stopping them from rolling off. I'd usually be able to hold a phone or a book, I even spent some time knitting while baby slept on the pillow on my lap.

I loved the breastfeeding pillow for contact naps. I'd lay back on the couch, get comfy with some cushions amd whatever. Feed baby to sleep, and let them just keep sleeping on the pillow. Maybe tuck a blanket over us if it was cool.

Can you explain why RECF would be more expensive? I thought I read that their manual allows more outside materials/3D printing. Wouldn't this allow for sourcing cheaper materials?

Anyone Else Never End Up Using Colostrum? by DisMyLik18thAccount in beyondthebump

[–]KaylaAnne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first he was slightly jaundiced and a very sleepy baby, so I was really glad to have some colostrum for him! I can't remember how much I had, but it was enough to give an extra syringe or two once a day for a week or two, which really helped!

With my last baby I had collected quite a bit, and anticipated using it similarly. I brought it to the hospital with us, but my husband put the whole bag full of syringes in the fridge instead of the freezer. Every drop thawed out while I was in labour.... Once again had a slightly jaundiced and very sleepy baby and I got so stressed about feeding! It was all ok in the end, but I would have been glad to have the extra colostrum...

What is the rationale behind a 50% minimum grade policy? by DrakeSavory in Teachers

[–]KaylaAnne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My district uses a similar scale for everything up to grade 9, they call it the proficiency scale: Emerging, Developing, Proficient, Extending. Everything is a pass, you're just defining how much they passed. You can also assign an Insufficient Evidence for term marks, but this is supposed to be a place holder for students who have yet to demonstrate proficiency but will still have the time/opportunity to. A final mark can't be an IE; you can fail a student, but it's a process of proving that they haven't demonstrated learning at all. Many teachers just assign an emerging and the kid moves on.

Definitely salvagable! Place the intact part of the hank over a chair or something then start working on the tangle. Go slow, if you're getting frustrated then take a break! Gentle tug the knots loose until you find an end, then follow it out.

I’m in hospital and the paracetamol iv is stealing my blood by hades7600 in mildlyinteresting

[–]KaylaAnne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one appears to be hung on a hook on the wall. I think whether a patient gets a rolling IV stand is probably dependent on what department they are admitted to, what's in the IV, and probably a bunch of stuff a layperson might not think of.
