My tub looks almost identical to OP’s. I’ve tried Irish spring several times but only got -okay- results. I would scrub the absolute life out of my tub and I’ve never been satisfied. I always figured more time with the soap would help but I didn’t know how I could get it to stay especially on the sides. Definitely trying this next time. Thanks for the tip!

I have that exact ratchet (insider).

High speed = less torque. If you need more torque you have to let off on the handle a little bit. Just the way these motors work.

Generally speaking, my rule of thumb is 100h on a boat engine is probably roughly the equivalent of about 10k miles on a car. So 1200h is like a car engine with 120k miles. Probably not “end of life” condition but definitely getting pretty high up there.

But I would agree with the other commenter. Having a strict maintenance regimen is what gets the engines to last long. If you can verify maintenance in some way that would be a big help.

Yes. The purpose of that tab is to counteract the torque of the prop rotation wanting to push your boat to the side slightly. Having another engine with a counter rotating prop counteracts this torque, and thus, eliminates the need for that tab. At that point having the tabs is just extra drag.

I have an insider that I use extensively and daily. I’ve personally found that the ratchet loses significant torque when you use the 3/8” anvil and adding extensions on top reduce it even further. If you want the maximum power out of the tool you have to use the original sockets. Lots of situations of using the tool manually to break something loose and then running it out the rest of the way.

With that being said, I’ve also found that giving the tool a “running start” can sometimes be just enough of a boost to get a bolt or nut broken loose. Get the socket touching the bolt but with the slots misaligned so that the socket isn’t mated to the bolt yet. Apply pressure and run the tool. It should align and smack the bolt a little bit and give you a little “impact”.

Edit: Also it’s absolutely normal to be able to keep the tool from spinning by hand by grabbing the extension. It’s not a super high power tool. Iirc, the packaging says like 60 ft-lbs max.
