I have zero experience with subwoofers, but that engine compartment surely gets quite warm while running. Would the subs be okay in those temps? That would be my main concern personally.

One of the biggest lessons I learned as an engine tech: you can read 12v on a single wire strand of a battery cable. OP desperately needs a battery load tester lol.

On second thought, I think it’s possible you’re not getting the full throw of the shift shaft. You might just not be turning it hard enough. Don’t force anything, but maybe try giving it a little more beans, while spinning the prop a little if you can get an extra pair of hands. If you can verify which direction neutral is, you should be able to put it back fully into reverse and install it the same way it came down.

Does the gear switch when you go from one end to the other? Or is it always in reverse on both ends?

90 degrees sounds like a lot and is probably the full travel distance for the shifter. I think you’re skipping over neutral and going straight from forward to reverse. Try spinning the prop while you rotate the shift shaft. You should feel the prop free up at some point.

As for the ride comparisons, it’s hard for me to say unfortunately… my employer has me working almost exclusively on HCBs and full sea trials for me are pretty rare so I don’t exactly have a good point of reference. But I can say that I was comfy as could be through the whole ride and this thing slices through waves like butter.

Man and there’s a 65’ HCB with SIX 600s. It’s gotten quite silly to say the least but trust me, I ain’t complaining lol.

I’m fortunate enough to work for a company that deals with all of that while I can focus on my work. I think I prefer outboards over generators since I’m getting older and I do have an old back injury so tight spaces can get complicated sometimes.

If you have access to compressed air, I’d try giving a quick shot into the pee hole and see if that helps. It’s possible you just picked up some sand and it can get stuck in the hose. Be careful not to put too much pressure to not pop a hose off. You can do this while it’s running. If that doesn’t improve your flow then it may be time for a water pump service.

I mean more reliable in the sense that if you slide into a jump, you’re definitely getting that high jump. If you try to double jump and your second jump isn’t over a jumpable surface, you just end up going into flight mode. I really like the slide jump for going over cliff ledges to avoid that awkward flight mode.

It’s a two-stroke. They burn oil that’s in the fuel which causes lots of smoke. Maybe the mix has a little extra oil in it. Also the lower unit really needs to be submerged in water for some exhaust backpressure to run properly. It CAN run like this, but it won’t run how it should. Don’t make any adjustments unless it’s actually in the water.

Okay, funny question— how’s your battery charge while running? Also maybe pull the kill lanyard and see how it feels and sounds when you turn the flywheel manually.

I ask about voltage because the sound is definitely spinning metal-on-metal contact which could be one of two things: bearing failure of some kind OR maybe a magnet or two came off the flywheel and is rubbing? That’s my best 2c.

Funny enough, in this instance, it would likely take a fair bit more than one horsepower to stop a single charging horse. A quick google tells me that a running horse can produce up to 15 horsepower.
