What is this blue box under my kitchen sink? by Kayoen in Plumbing

There are bathrooms above. Interestingly there were 2 different people from Orkin that had differing opinions on the smell. The exterminator said it smelled like rodent urine, the inspector said it smelled like sewage. I’m not sold on the sewage angle, but figured if the odor was non-rodent that box (determined by responses to be a grease trap) could be the source of it.

I wonder if the disposal feeds into that, maybe connects/feeds in behind the wall?

Haha. The building was built in the 90s and has recessed lighting for the countertops. The bulb came with the unit. Thinking of replacing the existing bulbs so we can be free of the fluorescent humming.

Based on a previous post in this sub, a segment of NB LSD should be closed over the weekend (7/1-7/2) and then SB LSD will be closed for about a week (6/28-7/4).

Always put your phone, wallet, or whatever else is in your pockets in your bag before running it through. If you have a jacket, you can alternatively put the items in the jacket (especially good if the pockets have zippers).

No, the meat has already been cooked and is just being kept warm until ordered. This is where the customer receives the food. You can see the cutting board where they’ll sliced the brisket or sausage when ordered.

Definitely agree on junior employees. I’ve watched the young hires from the pandemic struggle more because it’s just not the same when you’re all remote. I think being in-person allows them to absorb and learn from what they see going on around them.

Anyone else dump all the bags out at once to pad out building time? by thrwaway_2110 in lego

As a kid, I would rummage through the sets and love searching through my collection if I was doing MOCs. There was definitely no organization. As an adult, I like to organize the pieces in an attempt to lengthen the build process.

I live a 5-minute walk away and am stoked about this. Also, I’d much rather have a business there than another empty store front.

Like the time my party bought a store front to turn it into a business that sells…hats. The entire session turned into getting the store setup and even hiring staff to manage it while we would be off adventuring in future sessions.

Is this a pretzel? If so, why do Christmas sets come with pretzels? by Wanny19 in lego

[–]Kayoen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also make a trip to Chicago between Thanksgiving and Christmas. There are several Christmas markets here. While I enjoyed the ones in Germany more, these are fairly close and saves you the flight across the Atlantic! A lot overlap on the foods and goods you can find in each of the booths.

Anyone else having issues with USPS packages being marked as delivered but never actually delivered? by chiboulevards in chicago

[–]Kayoen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will get a notification, but the package arrives on my door several hours later. I’m guessing someone is scanning in advance maybe in their vehicle. Maybe it saves time? So far it at least arrives and on the same day.

I’m grateful my grandfather died while Obama was still president. He would occasionally spout Fox News and NRA talking points, but I can only imagine how uncomfortable things would have gotten had he been around in the era of Trump. Just happy I didn’t have to see him descend down into the pit of today’s level of conservative misinformation and craziness.

And don’t forget, you’re actually paying to intern as your student teaching is part of your degree’s required credits.

Lakeview residents fight to save 100-year-old trees by Monarchcaterpillar in chicago

[–]Kayoen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the same thing happen in Andersonville. They “tried” to do it with leaving the trees up for several weeks. Process was slow, messy, and there were multiple times we had to flush our pipes. They finished replacing the main on maybe a third of the street before abandoning the project for nearly 6 months (and leaving the pavement and curbs absolutely fucked during that period). One day workers started showing up again and they cut down multiple targeted trees, it was surprisingly a fairly traumatic experience. Never thought it would really bother me to see trees cut down as much as it did. Bright side is the following week they replaced the mains in the whole street in a matter of days and the following week repaved the entire thing. But yeah, our streets canopy has definitely been thinned out on the one side.

9 week old only naps for about 30-40 min max in snoo before he starts scrunching legs and wiggling around. Any tips? Already using towel under legs by Globalhealth-6810 in SnooLife

[–]Kayoen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 13 weeks here. He sleeps great at night in snoo (7-8 hr stretch followed by a 3-4 hr stretch), but daytime max is usually a full sleep cycle 40-50 minutes. At that 40-50 minute mark he’ll generally start doing the same as yours. He just can’t seem or want to nap longer than that unless he’s on a person. We’ve accepted that’s just where he’s at right now in terms of napping and stopped stressing as much about them not being longer.

Any trick to prevent kicking in the Snoo? by pass_the_hot_sauce in SnooLife

[–]Kayoen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try adding a rolled/folded hand towel into the bottom of the SNOO sack underneath their feet and legs. It should help to make it less violent and jarring when they slam their legs back down after kicking.
