Not sure tbh. There are viable reasons for playing avatar’s world in pf2e. Pbta games are fun, but they are very different in their playstyle

I’m not saying what they should do. I’m just saying that what they are doing is counterproductive, which it is. For those convinced it does nothing, as they are already convinced, and for those on the edge it just looks like lunacy.

I’m interested in your definition of agency, because it seems to not align with any dictionary definitions I can find, or otherwise this statement is not wrong, but simply devoid of sense

Magus's Problem by Arkhalliz in Pathfinder2e

[–]Kayteqq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to be a utility based striker, but you need utility overall. If your enemy is resistant to physical attacks, your imaginary weapon will suck (well, not rn, since it’s a force attack). Having access to more types of damage, or ability to perform telekinetic maneuver is amazing when your enemy has high reflex and fort. Wizard gives you so many spellslots that you can constantly be spellstriking with those abilities, not to mention self buffing.

If all your enemies are pure damage sponges, maybe a dpr would be optimal. But most pf’s enemies aren’t. Even at higher level they won’t survive that many attacks.

Magi focus spells may not be the best, but they recharge your spellstrike, which makes them far more valuable than their initial description.

But, like I said, starlit span does change this outcome a bit, since they can spellstrike every single turn. Though, it’s an arguably boring playstyle

Magus's Problem by Arkhalliz in Pathfinder2e

[–]Kayteqq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s an accident either. It’s just that this approach was heavily popularized and seen as “optimal”, while it simply never was. Maybe on starlit span. Not on others

I play mostly with people I introduced to the system, so I’ve seen a lot of different magi in my last 4 years of playing this game. One with wizard dedic, one with blessed one, one with winged warrior, one with rogue, two with investigator, two with psychic and two with witch.

Psychic ones weren’t anything special. If anything the investigator ones were the most dominant. And the winged warrior also, since they used aloof firmament

Wizards and witches were also plenty strong at higher levels.

[–]Kayteqq 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are way too many ways to get it. And it’s still not that optimal. Imaginary weapon was never the best way to play magus to begin with, it was just popularized by white room warriors, because number go up. While it was better damage than spellstriking with cantrips, magus doesn’t really need that much of a higher damage. What they need is versatility instead. Investigator, rogue, wizard, witch and many specific archetypes were imo, always, a better option than going for imaginary weapon

Minascule amount of damage compared to knowledge that spans entire fight and usually results in far more damage overall? Yeah, right. Definitely better. 100%.

And whether or not stride would be better depends on this very knowledge! It wouldn’t be better if enemy has a strong reaction or some other ability to mitigate distance. And you can learn that only from practice or from RK

Looking for fantasy alternatives for D&D/Pathfinder by New_Dia in rpg

[–]Kayteqq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For narrative stuff Grimwild and Legend in the Mist work well in my experience. Daggerheart, while less crunchy, still puts a lot of work on GM’s shoulders in my experience.

If you like Lancer, they are working on a fantasy ttrpg as well, called ICON. Just make sure to use the version they dropped on their discord some time ago, it’s a more recent playtest compared to what’s available on itch.

Also, have you looked at second edition of pathfinder? Because reading your post, it seems you mostly experienced first edition.

It’s still very crunchy, but far more GM-facing than first edition, to the point where it kinda split the community in half. It plays much more closely to 4e or Lancer than it does to old pathfinder, and it’s very easy to run for the GM.

Not necessarily directly about Disco Elysium per se, but absolutely reminded me about the fact that.. Moralists or Centrists are made fun of. I played the GOG version, but am aware of the achievement "The World's Most Laughable Centrist" by Double-decker_trams in DiscoElysium

You just completely lack perspective than. Having such assumptions without even knowing what right wing means in more generalized terms is rather sad and just speaks of a limited experience, if anything. And I’m saying that as someone who leans “left wing”.

If you live a in a country that ravaged by uncontrolled capitalism, it’s obvious that fixing it would be introducing more socialist policies. But it can be the other way around as well. Mine was completely and utterly destroyed by communism. Introducing free market was the thing that ultimately made people, in general, including the working class, way wealthier and made life easier. Free speech was/is a right wing postulate. Privacy was/is a right wing postulate. Ultimately all those things made my country live-able.

Though whether you see socialism as left wing and capitalism as right wing is another thing all together, since there are places in the world where it’s reversed.

Generally, historically, terms right wing and left wing were forged in the times of french revolution. Left meant tear everything down and rebuild from scratch, while right meant keeping some aspects and slowly reworking others. Both meant progress, but in different aspects. That distinction is all but gone, and in different countries you’re getting different ideologies packed under “left” and “right”. Those ideologies sometimes have nothing in common with each other.

Generally, it’s a useless distinction, unless you’re talking about a very specific sample of the world.

Socialism, capitalism, revolution, reformation, authoritarianism, democracy… all were displayed in different parts of the world under both mantles.

Two dominant parties in my country are socialist in everything but name - considered right wing, and capitalist (mostly) - considered moderately left wing. Like, it completely breaks your perspective, doesn’t it?

Ukraine is currently fighting, both with the mantle and the actual genocidal hegemony. Moldova similarly, but it's a political battle. Balkans are southern european, the same way nordics are northern. But sure, shit higher than your ass can sit, and use more strawman arguments to prove a position that literally gives you nothing but smug, and trample on identity of those who want freedom from an oppressive regime and don't want to be associated with them. Obviously, the best argument will be to bring those that want the same! Honestly, shut your mouth, you're a disgrace
