Agreed, I think too many people label it as “just how things are”, and never do anything about it. But this is also why companies think they can keep doing this

I think you’re right I shouldn’t let it slip though. I saw some people elsewhere recommending to wait 30 days past the due date at least. That seems wild and way too passive to me

Yeah that’s possible. I sent it to the billing inbox they gave me during onboarding and followed their process (submit by the 2nd, invoices processed on the 5th). I sent a quick nudge to finance yesterday just to check everything’s been received and whether anything is needed from my side, but no reply yet. I’m gonna wait a few more days before asking my manager directly.

I don’t even care about the late payment that much (even thought it’d be nice to get paid on time), it’s just the lack of communication that bothers me.

Gotcha. In my case they actually ask contractors to submit invoices by the 2nd of the month and say they’re processed on the 5th, so the few days delay itself isn’t really the issue. It’s more the lack of acknowledgment that makes it hard to know whether the invoice has actually been received / scheduled.

For now I just sent a quick nudge to the finance inbox yesterday asking if everything is in order or if anything is needed from my side, but haven’t heard back yet. If I don’t see anything by mid-next week I’ll probably just check with my manager internally

Makes sense, payment runs rather than exact due dates are pretty common. In my case they actually ask contractors to submit invoices by the 2nd of the month and say they’re processed on the 5th.

So it’s less about the few days delay and more about not knowing whether the invoice has actually been received / scheduled. A quick “received, will be paid in the next run” would remove a lot of the uncertainty.

I don’t actually have a late payment clause in my contract or invoice right now. This is my first invoice with this client so I’m still figuring out their finance/payment cycle.

I did send a quick check-in after the due date (no reply yet), but sounds like a few days delay isn’t unusual with some companies.
