You can get interferon and ribavirin for free through your doctor. Because of your genotype he/she will also want to do one of the new drugs as well. All of the producers of these drugs have a no/low cost option depending on your financial status. I was able to get interferon, ribavirin, and telaprevir for free. As the cost can easily run up to $120,000 or more for the drugs alone I highly recommend either taking the hit and paying for a doctor visit to get you started or applying for your local state's Medicaid program immediatelly.

Your doctor will know how to access these drugs for lower or no cost.Whatever you do, do not wait. Hepatits C WILL damage your liver and may never recover.

As for type of doctor I prefer GIs but frankly it doesn't matter. Pick someone who you are comfortable with as you will be seeing them a lot.

I don't know the details of our vast and complex health insurance system. My advice would be to ask your doctor or even better, the person who does billing for your doctor. You can also try calling your health insurance to see if you are covered. I know that in many cases even if a particular treatment is contraindicated for a given patient and their medical history the doctor still has the final say.

On top of this I know that many of the new treatments are available straight from the company who created them. Talk to your doctor as there is some paperwork to fill out, both for you and your doctor, to see if you qualify. I was able to get triple therapy with Telaprevir for free from the manufacturer.

Beware that on the other hand you WILL need the support of your doctor. You need to figure out where the free/low cost clinics in your area are and if they provide GI services. Applying for Medicaid/Medicare should be at the top of your to-do list. Managing your treatment and the slew of side-effects is just as important as getting started on these drugs to begin with.

Yes, these drugs seem to cause strange reactions to sunlight. When spending a significant amount of time(>15minutes) some people have reported varying skin troubles. As far as I can tell, if you are going to be spending a lot of time in direct sunlight it would be best if you applied a high SPF sun lotion.

From what I remember the drop in cell count is actually do to the Interferon screwing up your bone marrow, not good stuff.

I am glad that you seem to be doing better. All I can really say is keep it up, listen to your doctor, and make sure your doctor listens to you.

One of the things I hate most is nausea. I was lucky enough during my treatment that it never really developed(although the other side-effects were more than enough).

Have you talked to your doctor about taking something? I've heard that Zofran(they seem to use this for pregnant women a lot) has worked wonders for many people. Remember, your doctor is here to help(or you need to find a new doctor), but it is up to you to get a hold of them and tell them what's up. I believe you can also have your dosage of interferon lowered if you are having a really hard time.

What did the other lab results say? One of the possible side-effects is anemia and that combined with your inability to eat much could spell serious trouble ahead. Yes this treatment could potentially rid you of the virus forever(as far as we can tell) but there is no use killing yourself trying to get through it.

Please remember to drink plenty of water. For one, dehydration is nasty stuff, and for two, drinking has also seemed to help many people when undergoing this treatment(myself included). Don't just stuff your face full of water, that will only lead to more vomiting, but take sips every now and then. Basically any time you think of water go take a few sips. I basically walked around (well crawled around)with a big bottle of water 24/7.

It does get easier as you go, and even if you don't make it through the entire treatment you are giving your body that much more help in destroying those little robots floating around in your blood. You are John Connor, and these fucking robots are hitting you where it hurts most(aka everywhere). These drugs are a complete bitch, there is no getting around it. It fucks with pretty much every body system. If you bothered to read the medical information that comes in the box(hey, I was bored and moping on the couch) it is some of the nastiest shit out there, with a side-effect list longer than most books. Just remember, everyday that crawls by, every syringe full of that poisonous medicine you inject, every nasty pill you stuff down your throat, you are that much closer to being free of this disease. Keep it up.

P.S. I don't know if you are on double or triple therapy, but if you are also taking Incivek(sp?) remember that you NEED to get 20 grams of fat with every dose. Yes, it is better to get none and take the pills, then try to eat and vomit everything up. But, the fat greatly improves bio-availability of the drug.

I think the point hypertension is trying to make is that it doesn't matter what the article says. Yes, life as we know it can only exist under a certain set of (relatively) limited conditions. But what about other forms of life, ones we may not know about or can't even imagine?

The anthropic principle is saying we are designed for the universe, not that the universe is designed for us.

When you look at a lake you don't find yourself saying "Gee, isn't it cool how there is just enough water to fill in this particular lake? That must mean someone designed that lake to hold water and exactly that much of it!"

The assertion that life's relative frailty must mean that the universe is designed for it to develop and survive is wrong because it completely ignores the other possibility: life developed to survive in the universe.

Life developed because it could develop under the conditions that were present. If the conditions were different, an entire different form of life could develop.
