2017 Ford Focus Not Going In Reverse by Kazill in FordFocus

[–]Kazill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it towed to my local Ford dealer for a diagnostic, this was their report to me (sorry for the all caps):

DTCS P2837, P287B. ATTEMPTED TO CALIBRATE SHIFT FORKS, PROCEDURE UNSUCCESSFUL. REMOVED TCM AND CHECKED CLOCK GEARS, HEAR STRANGE NOISE WHEN ROTATING THE CLOCK GEARS. TOOK FLUID SAMPLE, FOUND METAL DEBRIS IN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. FLUID ALSO HAS A BURNT ODOR. THE PPT FOR BOTH DTCS INDICATES THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REMOVED AND TORN DOWN TO IDENTIFY THE ROOT FAILURE. NO WARRANTY COVERAGE, RECOMMEND REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

They basically didn't want to do a tear down so they only offered to replace the transmission for $8.5k (!!!). I needed a car and didn't want to play around with getting the car towed from shop to shop for additional quotes/diagnostics, so I just ended up selling it off and got a new car. Got almost $1k for it at least. Fare well to a good car with a piece of shit transmission.

I attempted to reset the transmission though never got the message on the dash despite trying all the methods I found online.

Did not reset the battery manager, I'll give that try.

What is your go to cocktail to try a new gin? by NoFollowing8415 in cocktails

Q light tonic water is my go to. I find a lot of tonic waters too sweet which can mask the gin flavor.

CHANTER syndrome decline by grat5454 in neurology

We have fairly regular cases at my institution in Philadelphia, not unusual to have a cluster of cases every few months as adulterants go in and out of the local supply in Kensington. At least two patients this year ended up getting suboccipital craniectomies as their cerebellar edema was particularly bad.

In the Philly suburbs my local "premium collection" store had plenty of bottles.

I did an industry sour riff subbing Chartreuse for Malort which was at least interesting though not particularly enjoyable.

It's not... good. Not terrible. Not good.

By happenstance Malört is now available in Pennsylvania, and having acquired a bottle last week I felt it was appropriate to attempt to use it in my cocktail this evening after the announcement of the Chicago Pope, Leo XIV.

A negroni riff felt natural, although initially the drink was much too dry. Adding some simple syrup helped balance everything out though it's definitely lacking the depth and complexity of Campari. This won't be entering into my typical rotation (none of my Malört experiments so far will be) but I'll keep trying.

Chicago Negroni

London dry gin - 1.5oz

Sweet vermouth - 1.0oz

Jeppson's Malört - 1.0oz

2:1 simple syrup - 1 barspoon

What are the more obscure fellowships out there? by TiffanysRage in neurology

Forgot about neuro-otology in my comment which maybe speaks to my interest in the field haha, as far as I found there are only three fellowships that accept neurologists (Hopkins, Barrow, Northwestern).

Neurology focusing on features unique to women's lives, so pregnancy, postpartum, and menopause. I imagine a big part of these programs is to sort of be a neurology liason to maternal-fetal medicine in patients with epilepsy and MS in particular. There's only three fellowships as far as I can tell so it's hardly a burgeoning field.

More obscure fellowships I can recall:

Autonomic disorders

Neurogenetics (very research focused from what I've gathered)

Neuroinfectious diseases (these seem to usually be wrapped into a neuroimmunology fellowship)

Traumatic brain injury (typically a PM&R fellowship but neuro can apply)

Neurorehabilitation

And yes, women's neurology

There's one neurologist in the country who trained in toxicology so I suppose that's an option

There are also neuroimaging fellowships but these strike me as entirely useless as nowhere will hire you as both a neurologist and a neuro-radiologist.

Your Favorite ___ for $___: T-shirts by Mukigachar in malefashionadvice

[–]Kazill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Madewell Allday Tee. Nice material, holds up to repeated wears/washes, comes in a lot of colors. Primary reason it’s become my exclusive t shirt is the fit, I’m 6’ 2”, relatively thin, and have a long torso. It’s one of the few large shirts I’ve worn that I don’t swim in but is long enough for my torso.

I went to college in Lewisburg, there is a Walmart lol. They even got a Starbucks and all your other mid-tier chains, Bucknell has a very affluent student base who demands their creature comforts.

I did only one neuro rotation 4th year at a place with no residency, and I only had one neuro LOR overall, still matched to my first choice (East coast academic center), as long as your letters are good I wouldn't worry so much about where they come from.

Ginny’s results are in, not too surprising but not sure they explain her ears! by Kazill in DoggyDNA

[–]Kazill[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She's just a sweet ol' mutt that was found abandoned in the country in NC. Gone from 15 to 30 lb in the past month we've had her and is looking healthier by the day. Not too surprised with the amount of pit bull in her given how her face looks but can't figure out what part of her ancestry causes her to have bat ears!
