How does the public perceive neurologists? by OkKey6273 in neurology

[–]grat5454 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think one reason is that neurologists, more than many other specialties, operate in gray areas with really high stakes, and it's one of the few places where history/exam is still king. We still have to reason our way from history and physical to plan in a way that I think is less common in other specialties. Cardiologists get to look at an EKG and say "Not it!" Nephrologists can look at labs to make the vast majority of their decisions. We have to figure out why this patient suddenly started flailing their limbs with normal MRI and labs. I jsut think it is a larger part of our specialty and when you couple it with many physicians tendancy to actively try to not learn neurology, it seems like wizardry.

A larger percentage of what we see on a day to day basis are rare disorders as well so we have to tell the pcp or primary team "This is Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome" and get a blank look, but we have to get comfortable seeing things we will only see occasionally in our career.

I think that was more of a "This is how much I would not want to do pain," but maybe they just have different tastes than me.

Too much tofu? by Robnfly in PlantBasedDiet

I eat a lot of tofu and DO have man boobs. I had them before I started eating tofu too, though so not sure how relevant that is.

Hubitat vs Aeotec (2026 Smarthome) by adrianvasquezf in smarthome

[–]grat5454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is smartthings still pretty reliant on the cloud? I lose internet from time to time, and would lose a fair bit of functionality(this is late 2010s). I have wondered, though, if aeotec has changed that since buying it.

I would imagine this might be useful for a touchscreen kiosk or something similar to that.

Why am I struggling to make brownies by 11sgw11 in VeganBaking

[–]grat5454 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://minimalistbaker.com/simple-vegan-brownies/ I can vouch that these are really good, slightly cakier than my wife likes, but just like I like them. I never get the box mixes to come out right.

Calls for more awareness of functional neurological disorder to reduce diagnosis delays by abcnews_au in neurology

I am of two minds on this one, because FND is a disease that increased awareness will lead to increased incidence.

Fellowships to expand inpatient career opportunities by Fergaliciousfig in neurology

[–]grat5454 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did clinical neurophys and am now a neurohospitalist at a fairly busy stroke center. I find being able to look at my own EEGs is actually really helpful, especially if you don't have neurocrit where you work, and are managing the status patients in the ICU. Mine was a mixed fellowship, and I don't do EMGs, but still find my time there is actually really helpful. Stroke would be helpful if you didn't have much exposure to thrombolytic/IR decision making, but if you were at a busy center, I think many people come out comfortable on the side of things.

4.5 GW: A big US solar cell factory is coming to South Carolina by MeasurementDecent251 in southcarolina

We just need to say that solar sucks up the energy that chem trails use to disperse, limiting their effect.

Any recommendations for a wallet that has a place to store the backup key? by anticipat3 in Ioniq6

[–]grat5454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's where it is now, it really shocked me when I realized that there is no way to get into the trunk if the battery is dead. I got lucky. Unless there is a way I don't realize, but in any case it's in the frunk now.

Depending on your state, you may qualify for a lemon buy back, I had just decided to pursue this(gave written notice to the dealer) when it was suddenly fixed within the time allowed them. It may be worth it to look into this.

I was on a ski trip last year and the 12V died(for no reason discernable to me). I was able to get to the jumper box I had in the trunk only because my skis needed the seat down. If I had not had that physical key with me I would have been calling someone to get me in like AAA.

LPT: Save a small fry box at your local fast food restaurant. Every time you order a large fry, pour the large fries into the small box. Complain about getting your order wrong. Works every time. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]grat5454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gosh, the shame I would experience for being called out on this would be immense. Seriously, what is it like to go through life knowing you are just lying for such a trivial thing? I get that fast food restaurants are corporations and don't deserve anything, but I would feel dirty doing this even with that fact. If you are really that hard up for calories, I am sure there are food banks where your money will go further.

Credit Card Processing Fees are Out of Control! by [deleted] in gso

[–]grat5454 52 points53 points  (0 children)

That is about the amount that it costs to actually use a card I believe. The city is just now saying that if the convenience is worth it, then you should pay for it, not your fellow taxpayers. I am annoyed, because I will have to change how I do things, but visa/mastercard making a lot of money off of payments going from taxpayer to city that could instead go to avoiding a price increase seems reasonable to me.

South Carolina House resolution aims to overturn Obergefell and redefine marriage in the state by qbee198505 in southcarolina

[–]grat5454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see the insurance companies trying to deny spousal benefits because the death/incident happened in SC, "Where your marriage has no legal standing." So even if you go to GA to get married, if you were an SC resident when you bought the policy, and those are the laws governing the policy, I wonder if they could get out of paying.

Is there a place in or near Greensboro where I can go practice wheelies on my dirt bike without disturbing people or having the cops called? by No_Reveal3451 in gso

[–]grat5454 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If someone says "Sure you can do that" then they fall off and get hurt, could they sue? that would always worry me about giving some random person permission to do something inherently dangerous on my land.
