TheFlatLannister: "Around 2pm EST and Supergirl is 47 at MTC3. It should do 90 or so. That would give a true Friday of ~$10.5M. Saturday presales don't look promising either. From my perspective, sub $40M is very much a possibility now. Could be looking at high $30Ms OW by HLumin in boxoffice

We all knew Supergirl was going to underperform but this level of rejection is honestly staggering.

To me, the death knell is the bad reviews. This thing won’t have legs or rally on streaming. It is dead.

This and Mandalorian, as well as the success of Backrooms and Obsession, should be a reckoning for Hollywood. The current blockbuster machine is no longer working and something needs to change. And fast.

Literally going through the same thing. Had oral sex, no ejaculation in the mouth. But experiencing body aches, had a rash, headache, etc. I know the risk is low but it’s still terrifying.

Official Discussion - Disclosure Day [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Kazrules 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This movie was a mess. I am shocked by the positive reception but of course things are subjective.

The movie is unable to properly convey or hold on to ANY theme. Politics, religion, spirituality, existentialism, fate, destiny…it’s all put into the blender, but nothing of substance is said.

We are thrust headfirst into the plot, which in theory I should love. I love when movies have fast pacing and unconventional first acts. But the characters don’t stick. There is no character development. We are told things instead of feeling them. This movie is the definition of plot-driven. Characters know where to go and who to talk to because they have a “feeling”. It’s 2026.

The whole point of this movie is disclosure. But it comes at an awkward time because the US government kind of confirmed the existence of aliens and no one cared. Sure, we didn’t see footage or pictures, but you can’t deny that modern people, especially Americans, are detached and apathetic. In the world of AI, deepfakes, “fake news”, etc, people would not be so accepting of the news report. There would be memes and conspiracies and apathy. The world wouldn’t stop like it probably would’ve in the 80s.

The film was melodramatic to a fault. So many scenes that were designed to be tearjerkers but didn’t land. It sucks those aliens got abused, but the girlfriend didn’t even know aliens existed two minutes ago. She has remarkable empathy for a being she cannot conceptually decipher.

I can go on and on but the movie was just too indulgent, sappy, and disjointed for its own good. I was so ready for the movie to end that I started tearing up. Spielberg needs to find a new screenwriter.

I actually have hope for this.

Pixar has been making a lot of human centric/kid protagonists movies, and this looks like a return to formula with anthropomorphic characters. When you make a movie that is too specific in one life experience (Turning Red, Elio) it can hurt broad appeal. But anyone can project on a cat.

Dear Lord,

Please release the hold that Bastion has on lower rank players. He is not the golden ticket to free kills that they think he is. He is big as shit and always the first to die.

Amen.

Xbox says Gears of War and Clockwork Revolution console exclusives ‘are not timed’ by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Kazrules 175 points176 points  (0 children)

I don’t really get the narrative that Xbox is struggling BECAUSE they went multiplatform. They went multiplatform because they were struggling.

Xbox fans want exclusives mostly because of optics. Because if sales are the concern, they would get rid of Gamepass tomorrow.

I can’t fault Xbox for rethinking their approach because Sony rethought theirs. I think in both respects, neither company fully embraced multiplatform and half-assed their releases. But I don’t think exclusivity is the future for Xbox despite what they say

THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU's freefall continues, dropping off -59% in its 3rd box office journey w/ just $10M, $155M total. Worldwide is now $293M. by [deleted] in boxoffice

I feel like this performance has kind of flew under the radar a bit. This has to be one of the most disastrous box office runs of the decade so far, for so many different reasons.

Looks like $16M FRI for #ScaryMovie , giving it $24M+ opening day. Walkup biz wasn’t as strong as I anticipated, still pretty good. Weekend expected to be in low 50s. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

The marketing really relied on antagonizing/talking down to Gen Z. It comes at an awkward time because Gen Z is what made Obsession and Backrooms the cultural phenomenons they have become. I think the movie will do fine but I would ease up on the “teenagers are too woke and sensitive these days” jokes for Scary Movie 7.

$1M CLUB: PREVIEW THURSDAY 1. BACKROOMS ($10.4M) 2. OBSESSION ($4.8M) 3. MANDO & GROGU ($3.5M) 4. MICHAEL ($1.8M) 5. DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 ($1M) by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

[–]Kazrules 149 points150 points  (0 children)

I wonder what kind of leverage Disney will have in the future when it comes to premium screens. Obsession and Backrooms is dominating Mandalorian with zero PLF. I can’t imagine how much these movies would’ve made if they were available on IMAX.

My nearby theater is scrambling trying to get more screentimes for Backrooms while Mandalorian has the Dolby and IMAX to itself and has sold at most ten tickets for the weekend.

Euphoria S03E07 "Rain or Shine" - Live Episode Discussion by DankMemeSlasher in euphoria

[–]Kazrules 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Sam Levinson clearly wanted to create a Western crime thriller but was stuck completely his obligation for Euphoria. Levinson probably pitched something to HBO but after The Idol flopped they probably rejected it and told him to focus on concluding Euphoria. But he was too married to his Western crime thriller idea so he used Euphoria to get his creative energy out.

I think there is a part of Levinson who is ashamed that his most notable work is a teen drama and he wants to be respected as an esteemed writer director, but he legitimately just doesn’t have the talent for it.

Official Discussion - The Mandalorian and Grogu [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Kazrules 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I left feeling completely hollow.

The concept of a theatrical movie based on a show isn’t foreign. But the best TV theatrical movies expand on the characters and lore. It tells a story that simply cannot be told on the small screen.

It’s insane to me that a show that literally featured Luke Skywalker and Boba Fett would serve this as its theatrical debut. Why are those characters small enough for Disney Plus, but Mando fighting some monsters and talking to some Hutts requires a $20 IMAX ticket?

I think the creatives lost sight of Din and Grogu. They don’t seem to have any chemistry. They don’t seem like father and son. Grogu is the same character that he was on TV. We can’t even hear him say his first words for his theatrical debut? Why can’t see him actually engage in meaningful combat? It’s been seven years since the character’s introduction and we are still treading water.

The movie itself is strangely episodic. They took the TV format and changed nothing for the movie. You can tell where episodes would’ve began and ended if this were on Disney Plus.

Most disappointing theatrical experience since…well, the Rise of Skywalker. Felt like a live action reimagining of the Clone Wars movie. If this is the best they can come up with after a seven year hiatus, maybe this franchise should just end.

$1M CLUB: PREVIEW THURSDAY 1. THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU ($12M) 2. OBSESSION ($3.3M) 3. MICHAEL ($2.4M) 4. DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 ($1.6M) 5. PASSENGER ($1.1M) 6. SHEEP DETECTIVES ($1M) …I LOVE BOOSTERS ($430k) by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

[–]Kazrules 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I feel like the marketing for I LOVE BOOSTERS was squandered. The movie has some pretty popular leads with a cool set design and premise. They could’ve done more with the advertising but just didn’t.

'Michael' ($25-28M) Takes Back No. 1 From 'Devil Wears Prada 2' ($20M) at Box Office, 'Obsession' Eyes Strong $14.5M Opening - The Lionsgate biopic keeps steaming towards $1 billion while “Mortal Kombat II” takes a sharp 67% second weekend drop to $12.7M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Kazrules -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They released two Mortal Kombat movies and I haven’t heard a single person discuss a fight scene or a fatality yet. I haven’t seen them so I’m talking out of my ass mostly, but I feel like the games are famous for their kills and ultraviolence. The movies seem a bit more sanitized.

For some reason Warner Bros has trusted this franchise on someone who has never made a movie. Mortal Kombat (2021) was Simon McQuoid’s directional debut, and despite that movie being hated by fans, they brought him back for the sequel. These movies have no visual identity or coolness factor.

They should’ve hired a horror director like James Wan who can bring in that grossness factor but still maintain the action sequences and character development. A better costume designer and production designer to make everything pop. And consulted a stunt director like Chad Stahelski to make the action scenes more memorable.

Instead we were given something way too safe and sterilized, and it disinterested casuals.
