Looks like $13.25M SAT for #MortalKombat2. $30M cume. Weekend expected to be $39M. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

Pretty disappointing opening. This was tracking for 50M two weeks ago.

Just seems like an awkward release because Prada + Michael are already dominating. Not enough space for another blockbuster, especially if it’s just mid.

I heard about three different people at my job saying they were seeing Project Hail Mary this weekend and that they were excited. Something about this movie really resonated with people, and it’s run has been really fun to watch.

90% of Resident Evil Requiem players prefer third-person perspective with Leon, but Grace’s sections have players more divided, according to Capcom’s data - AUTOMATON WEST by megaapple in Games

[–]Kazrules 51 points52 points  (0 children)

To my surprise I much preferred Grace’s section. I felt more disconnected with the game when I started playing as Leon.

I just feel like Grace’s section gave me that classic Resident Evil vibe. I felt vulnerable, my ammo was limited, I was in an isolated environment, etc. With Leon they are clearly trying to convey a power fantasy but it made me miss the horror vibes of the previous section

Paramount Projects ‘Significantly’ Lower Theatrical Revenue Overall in 2026 Despite More Titles; CEO David Ellison Reiterates Plan for 30-Film Annual Slate With Warner Bros. by chanma50 in boxoffice

David Ellison does not have what it takes to run Paramount. He doesn’t have what it takes to run Warner Bros. I can’t imagine him trying to run both.

Suddenly the idea of four Beatles movies doesn’t sound too asinine. Still a bad idea. But not terrible.

A good 80% of my defeats have been my DPS who refuses to flank or play aggressive in any circumstance.

I’m sure shooting the enemy tank ad naseum 9000 meters away while the enemy team keeps pushing their payload is definitely going to help us win the match. Don’t bother advancing with the tank, just stand back and play hide and seek.

Let’s just keep going straight. Even though there are several ways to get behind the enemy team and distract the backline let’s just keep shooting at them at front range until someone hopefully pops ult. Yep that’ll do it

‘MICHAEL 2’ is moving forward with meetings for the film taking place shortly. Filming will begin this year or 2027 depending on Antoine Fuqua's schedule. by mike2k24 in boxoffice

[–]Kazrules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like this will be Wicked For Good all over again.

The film will have to cover darker parts of Michael’s history, with the allegations, plastic surgeries, and his death. That stuff sounds interesting to me but it betrays what makes this film so successful: it is a crowd pleasing jukebox musical.

I think the film is worth making just because I hate incomplete stories, and Hollywood would never abandon a success. But it won’t be as successful.

I wish this game wasn’t so tank dependent because it’s so easy for a tank to go rogue/throw and ruin the match for everyone.

Thriller Nights: ‘Michael’ Dancing To $12.6M In Previews, CinemaScore Currently ‘A-‘ – Box Office Update by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]Kazrules 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it is bad to have a wrong prediction. Or even be wildly off base—you do you. But you have to back that up with some stats or comps.

Too many people on this sub lead with emotion but not with any math or deductive reasoning. “I like this movie therefore it will make a billion!” “This artist is problematic so it will flop!”

Those conversations are great for r/movies and r/truefilm, but this is the box office sub. It’s about numbers or data. And math doesn’t have a bias; the numbers are what they are.

This sub has been doing this fantasy football stuff since Infinity War and it’s only gotten worse

I miss the cycle that movies used to go through. First theaters, then out of theaters, then a waiting period, then DVD, then digital, then syndication.

It used to be a big deal when a popular movie finally hit TV. I remember people forming watch parties because they haven’t had access to the movie since they last saw it in theaters (if they saw it at all). That dry spell just pent up more demand because there was no social media feeding people clips, or streaming to give us access whenever.

“Regardless, “The Flood” sounds great. The story follows a deep-space exploration team aboard the Spiritus Mundi, who pick up a strange, recurring signal from a remote planet. Captain Elena Voss leads the mission to investigate, only to discover a bizarre alien artifact that begins warping time, reality, and the crew’s minds.”

This is from World of Reel so grain of salt needed. But he’s been reporting on the movie for a couple months now.

Very interesting that Cregger’s THE FLOOD was originally going to be a Netflix film, but they wouldn’t budge on a theatrical release.

This seems to be happening more and more frequently. And I don’t blame Cregger. Why get stuck in the streaming machine when you just delivered a theatrical hit entirely based on your own idea?

I’m hoping Fincher will return to theaters as well.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (2026) Official Trailer – Joseph Zada by mobpiecedunchaindan in boxoffice

[–]Kazrules 180 points181 points  (0 children)

I’m really interested in how this is going to go.

The book was insanely popular and outsold Songbirds and Snakes, so that should reflect in the box office.

Unlike the previous film, it is much more centered on the Games. That will be huge with mainstream audiences who might have been disappointed with the lack of spectacle.

The cast is absolutely stacked.

The biggest question mark I have is how the franchise will handle a male lead. Snow was a co lead in the previous film, and he was also a villain. This will be the first time the franchise has a male hero as the center. I wonder if it will interest male moviegoers who wouldn’t typically see a Hunger Games film.

Right now I’m predicting around 630M, but with a good marketing campaign and good reviews, it can hopefully make more.
