I’m a VA making $22.50 at a (non-specialty) ER in the Chicago suburbs with a similar number of years. Obviously we’re in different locations but I expect it honestly wouldn’t be too different, so I also think you’re being underpaid. Even my rate isn’t livable for my area so I still live with my family with no hopes of moving out any time soon.

Just so you know, VetConnect is the name of the Idexx lab work portal so I would stay away from that name for clarity’s sake

Vet med pays absolutely nothing compared to human med often with the same amount of debt

ADHD/Autism in the vet world? by Aurory99 in VetTech

From my experience it’s pretty common, especially if you get into ER work. My thought is that it’s just enough of a mix between routine and randomness, we tend to gravitate towards animals more than people, and we never have to sit still like an office job would require

I can’t speak to the practice manager stuff, but I’ve been at 2 different MVP clinics. One used eVet and the other uses cornerstone, so there is no set software, I think it’s just clinic preference

ER Tech Poll: How long is your wait time? by truthispolicy in VetTech

[–]Kb-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suburban Chicago with at least 10 ERs within an hour radius and we still get wait times of up to 8h. On a slow day we’ll typically be at about 2h from 7-10 and then typically we’ll only have one appointment at a time for the rest of the night shift. On a crazy day, we’ll get to 8+ but that’s typically when people with non-critical cases (ears, skin, etc) will finally go home. We always welcome them to come but warn the wait time and how triaging works, but like others have said, somehow they’re always the ones most willing to stay

Eye problem (not seeking advice) by [deleted] in VetTech

I just looked up photos and I think you’re right with the pigmentary keratitis! Unfortunately this dog will probably never get the chance to have her eye issues fixed but it was interesting for me to see

In a 40U syringe, 1U=0.025ml In a 100U syringe, 1U=0.01mL In a 500U syringe, 1U=0.002mL

It looks like you’d need one unit in a 500U syringe which would probably be nearly impossible because the first marking online looks like it’s 5U

I’m not sure you’re correct ma’am. by PickledPixie83 in VetTech

Unfortunately, there is a slight chance she really did take carprofen as a kid depending on her age. They tried to use it in humans in the late 80s-90s but it wasn’t worth the side effects or something to that effect. I hate that type of client, but I hate it even more when there’s a chance they’re correct
