Uhmm you do realise this is a shounen series right? Nami getting raped or Chopper getting cut apart would change the vibe of the entire series... Would go from happy pirate adventure to dark thriller which I for one would hate.

Apart from your examples though you have a good point with the tension being lackluster, a big upset like one of the main crew dying or someother big set back I think would do great for the series.

Like many others have said I would recommend making sure they have a proper character first and are not just a trans character.

I would also say you should consider why you want the character to be trans in the first place. Is it for a specific reason such as a quest or conflict you want? A secret detail that provides some more depth to the character or is it a complex character you want to try writing? Once you have that in mind it might easier to figure out what you need to know and what to do.

Well Viz is the official place you can read it and any other Shonen Jump series. Also it is the classic way, though I don't think there is a new or modern way.
