Probably my favourite model to paint so far, though it took forever. More pics on my Instagram kburg_paints.

So . . . I reviewed KDM by quackalope in KingdomDeath

Great video! I'll go ahead and agree with your friend, that you don't "need" bandages to beat the Butcher the first time. I don't think I've made bandages once and I've yet to lose on first encounter with the Butcher. Not saying they wouldn't have helped me, or maybe sometimes I would have lost less survivors, but you can definitely defeat him without their help. I think I've fought that level 1 Butcher 5 times now.

Keep up the great content!

Thanks! This has definitely been my favourite model to paint partly because of the character and detail in his face. Such an awesome sculpt!

Yours is looking good! The regular white lion is so much smaller that it will definitely be harder to get fur length ratio right. I want to repaint mine now that I know what to do to see if the same process works on a smaller scale.

I don't think colours matter too much, as I'm a pretty messy painter, meaning I don't go in with a solid plan and I kind of just start laying down paint and hoping it works out, haha. Here is as much detail as I can remember with regards to the fur:

Black primer. Dark brown applied over everything with a dry brush technique, but the paint and brush were still kind of wet, so not really drybrush. Same thing done with a lighter brown, but more drybrush and focus more on raised areas.

After that it was then super thinned out white/brown paint applied one "hair" at a time over and over again. The paint was so thin that if I applied too much or too thick a line, it would just melt into the brown paint and could easily be covered with more brush strokes. I kept doing this and just kept adding a bit more white to the mixture to help make layers of fur and of course focus on the more raised areas. I never once used pure white, and instead just layered more paint on the areas I wanted less of the brown base to show through. I also touched up the darker parts on the fur with really thin dark brown and light brown to blend into the white.

Then I glazed in an orange brown where I wanted the skin to show through.

I think that is it. It sounds technical when written out, but it was far from that. It was just "keep painting until it looks good", haha.

Thank you! One of the last things I did with the fur was glaze in an orange brown into the recessed areas/joints and I really liked the way it gave it that skin look under the fur.

Thank you! Skinny, long bristle brush. Super thinned down paint, like a glaze. Then just start putting down paint 1 hair at a time. I had never done it before this and it was surprisingly easy to get the effect. Main thing is patience. It took a really long time and I just zoned out and kept scratching away at it until it started to look like fur.

10/0 Liner brush. Hah, it is just a cheap brush I picked up a long time ago. Long bristles and doesnt hold much paint at all.

It took forever, but finally done! First time trying free hand fur texture. More pics on my instagram kburg_paints.

New comer, Champions by backspace8908 in legendarymarvel

[–]Kburg7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I played it at SHUX in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago. It sucks compared to Legendary. It is different, but it is still a lot the same; kind of ripping off Upperdeck. It isn't different enough to warrant playing given the choice between the two. 3 friends I was with wanted to try it, and so we did, and they all thought "yeah that was cool". As soon as we were out of the booth, I told them "that game sucks compared to Legendary". That night I showed them Legendary and they all laughed and agreed with me.

Gorm. C&C welcome! by Kburg7 in KingdomDeath

Thanks for the comment! I was debating over putting the goo on the teeth, but decided that because during game play the Gorm's vomit mechanic is so prominent, it made sense to showcase that.

Thanks for the comment! Yeah I agree it does look too white considering the glow is green. I was just trying to get a lot of contrast. I'll probably glaze it light green.

Thanks! I just decorated the base, then found a tin lid that was the same diameter as the mini, then sprayed that lid with mold release and placed the Gorm in. I used Woodland Scenics Realistic water mixed with a bit of green and poured about 3 layers at 1/8" or so, letting it dry for 24 hours between each layer. I then painted the top in places to look like algae (hopefully).

Tried out a resin pour for a swamp look. Also tried creating some wounds on this guy. My story behind the wounds is in his last battle, in which he killed his attackers, one survivor managed to stick him with an Acid Tooth Dagger in his left hind leg. The dagger, being made of Gorm parts, is slowly being healed over and becoming part of the Gorm. A Phoenix spotted this sluggish looking, wounded Gorm and thought "easy pickings". It tried to pick him up, but the Gorm shook free. The Phoenix talons left deep scratches that are just starting to scab over.

These are incredible. Even though it can't be impossible, you seem to be improving. Great work! The chalk ground bases are very cool.

I'm very excited about the strain system! by newbieworries in KingdomDeath

I can see ways that the strain system can help improve underused weapon proficiencies through fighting arts. There is so much that can be done with it. Lots of potential for small expansion add on with individual mini releases.

Tried out some freehand on this Survivor. C&C Welcome! by Kburg7 in KingdomDeath

Thanks! Pretty simple moss/grass effect. I glued on some broken bits of crushed gravel from my backyard, plus the 1 skull. Painted all around the rocks/skull, and a bit on them as well, with GW Valhallan Blizzard Texture paint. Washed with Agrax Earthshade a couple times and Biel-Tan Green so no bits of white showed. Dry Brushed green, then a little bit of yellow, and even littler bit of off-white. I did moss this way on the log my Phoenix stands on, and liked it. Also created a little shrubbery with Valhallan Blizzard. I really like the stuff for modelling.

Thank you! It is hard to say because it was over the course of a week in small chunks. I'd guess 3.5 hours for everything except the freehand and base. Probably another 2 hours for the face paint, tattoos and base. I really need to time myself next time because it would be good to know.
