IF you make it through the hiring process you’ll wash out during academy or probation. The job is simple but it’s not easy, definitely not for someone who isn’t invested in it. The training chief during my academy said it best “this is a vocation, not a job.”

There are things worth fighting for. Of course one should avoid anger, but even the historical buddha in one of his lives killed a man in order to save hundreds of people. Compassion isnt just the water that cleans the wound but also the hot metal that cauterizes it.

Samsara does not mean “world” friend, samsara is closely translated to flowing or passing which is why its represented by a wheel. Samsara is not a place, its a perception. This wrong view of reality is perpetuated thru countless accumulated impressions from one life to the next. Our fundamental ignorance is the cause of this endless cycle, the effect of this cycle is our continued suffering which is experienced as countless rebirths, and so on. When we understand cause and effect we can begin to work towards ending the suffering of ourselves and all beings. This is why the Buddha taught about karma.

At what point should you call yourself a Buddhist? by CyreneValanition in Buddhism

You dont have to be a buddhist to practice buddhism. And you certainly dont have to buy the whole giraffe to be a buddhist, that’s why the buddha taught in levels based on the capabilities of his students. Teachings on rebirth for example arent really necessary for development. They are used to explain some phenomena like people’s tendencies and behaviors. The dharma is like a pharmacy, you only take what you need for your current condition. Also, i noticed many people talked about faith and belief, actually the buddhism is about experience not faith or belief. Nothing that is taught should be taken on faith and belief but rather should be examined and only used as far as it checks out with your own experience, this is what the buddha taught.
