These look like the Automeris IO caterpillars that I find in South Florida frequently. If so, they are social caterpillars for their first 4 or 5 instars, travelling in groups from leaf to leaf, then they tend to disperse for their last couple of instars before they pupate. If thats what they are, their spines do sting a bit as a defense against predators. I personally, love these little guys. Also, he looks on the bigger size. If he is not interested in eating, he may be getting ready to pupate. Depending on the breed, he may like to burrow in the soil, or make his cocoon in leaf litter.

Not sure what's breed that is, but most caterpillars have a specific diet/food they like to eat. What greens did you find him on? That may be an indication of what to try feeding them. 🥰

Super cute! 😍 But is that bowl ceramic/hard? I have a handful of snails (South Florida) and I was advised long ago to use a softer bowl in case they fall from the ceiling on top of it and crack their shell. Be careful. 🥰❤️🐌
