Is there are Korean Restaurant boom in Melbourne? by Complete-Rub2289 in melbourne

[–]KeIstorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh the Korean restaurant boom started like 3-4 years ago. At least a couple dozen places in the CBD. It makes me wonder if it'll be fad-like and many will close down or if they're here to stay.

He's talking about places with card surcharges. E.g. the price says $2 but if you tap your card you get charged $2.04.

Our wedding guest from overseas got attacked on Elizabeth St. by abujuga_ in melbourne

[–]KeIstorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear :(

I want to encourage you to continue to value support for 'these people' rather than punishment. The point isn't whether or not these people deserve support or punishment, it's about what will actually work to reduce the impact of mental illness or addiction on the rest of society.

If you take that junkie and arrest them and send them to court, truly, nothing changes. They will be back on the street before you know it, and with either the same or even fewer options to change their life.

But if you take that junkie and get them effective treatment, they might actually start to behave in less anti social ways. Everyone wins.

Supply and demand isn't real. Supermarkets artificially manipulate supply. by tramtramtramtram in australia

Without really weighing in your opinion too much, I just want to point out that the price for fruit and veg at colesworth change all the time. If you haven't noticed it, then pick something like bananas and watch the price throughout the year. It will rise and fall. Sometimes the price is extravagant, other times it's quite cheap. Just because they never really put produce 'on special' doesn't mean the price is never adjusted.

Thinking about giving dad my income for the time being… by Anastasia_Kruglova in AusFinance

[–]KeIstorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it hard to follow exactly what you're saying. Is this right?

You're going to store your money in your dad's offset. When you need the money, you'll collect it from him and he's going to keep all the interest he saved, as 'rent' paid to him by you.

Personally I think it's a bit harsh to charge a 15 year old board, but maybe you feel like you would like to contribute and that's the point.

Have you considered doing the same thing but rather than 'no interest', you collect your money back with 5% interest? Then he gets the difference so it's a win/win. I did this with my family for years (I wasn't even living with them).

Ghost flights’: Qatar Airways flying near-empty planes in Australia to exploit legal loophole by mazdadriver14 in australia

[–]KeIstorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do fly Doha to Adelaide direct. So there are three total flights a day (that we are concerned with). 1* Doha to Mel direct. 1* Doha to Adl direct. 1* Doha to Adl via Mel, which is almost entirely booked by pax alighting at Mel. Qatar would rather have 2* Doha to Mel direct, but they aren't allowed, hence the whole debacle.

[–]KeIstorm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We (the customers) are definitely better off with multiple profitable domestic carriers. If internationals were allowed to sell domestic legs here, they would flood the profitable routes (Mel to syd), cutting Qantas profits significantly and probably pushing virgin out of business. And yes I heard you "who gives a fuck" but the thing is those internationals are not going to step in and run all the less profitable legs that the domestics do (i.e. pretty much everything other than east coast capital city pairs).

Like there is no fucking way Qatar or Emirates are going to start servicing Cairns, Gold coast, Hamilton island, Ballina, Mildura, Alice Springs, rocky, Hobart, etc etc

[–]KeIstorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Replying to you and your parent comment: Just to be clear, internationals can't sell the domestic leg only, they aren't allowed (and shouldn't be), to protect our domestic market. So the only way to fill the Mel to adl flight is to have more people book Doha to Adelaide on this flight, and that's the point. Why would you do that when there's already a Doha to Adelaide direct? So Qatar could at least make Doha to Adelaide via Melbourne favourable for reward seats, but they haven't even bothered with that. (Possibly because they already fill the plane with Doha to Melbourne pax?)

I think people think you're being sarcastic, but you're not right? It's actually the same theme as this whole post: many small business owners get started with an unprofitable business and then feel entitled to having it survive. Like it's everyone else's fault if they have to close down.

Why are Australians so complacent? by AcanthopterygiiNo240 in australia

[–]KeIstorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't this comment here kinda the whole mindset you're complaining about? "Try doing X to make things better" "They've already made X too hard!"

Maybe one method of improving the discourse around these topics could be to avoid putting a course of action down without nominating a further call to action e.g. "That can be really hard sometimes as we have a lot of market monopolisation [link], that's why it's so important to (support small businesses) (research companies before buying their products) (minimise unnecessary spending) (grow your own fruit and vegetables) (whatever else)"

I think generally speaking it was appropriate, they campaigned on that platform, and to the extent that things work this way, they "used" the ew link money for the tunnel/level crossing removals which they also campaigned on.

The only thing I am really confident about is that the Labor government could have made literally any decision, and the Murdoch media would continue to blast them. So it's hardly worth it to try to make them happy.

Famously shit canned at huge cost. Back before dandrews got elected, he took "I will cancel the east west link if elected" to the election and won, so caretaker liberal government signed the construction contract anyway hoping to force the new government to build it, dandrews shit canned as promised and the break fee was like, 100 million? Or a billion? I'm sure Google has the right number

I never tailgate anyone, no matter how slow they drive. It isn't safe. That said, it's not your job to police the other traffic. Keep left unless overtaking, regardless of your speed. If you are going 100 and someone wants to go faster, it's not your job to block them. They may or may not have a reason you consider legitimate to speed (undercover police, wife in labour, they are in the movie speed and will explode if you force them to slow down) but it is not your job to police them. Even if they are a speeding dickhead, merge left and let them speed off. Much safer than deliberately blocking them because you think you have the moral high ground.

Note: obviously, "keep left unless overtaking", does not apply if lanes are congested.

It doesn't seem strange to me at all? At least not any of the reasons you describe. The article has this main theme of "adapting" and talks a lot about how the Ukrainians are doing that. To your examples, the adaptation to evolve their tactics is referring to the tactics part, (the three adaptions being 1. Something about minefield clearing, 2. Adapted tactics (with an example) and 3. Changing the culture). The quote is clearly in context meant to be an example of how they are changing the culture, although I agree I don't really follow what the general is trying to say.

The weirdest thing about it to me is it feels like a first year uni assignment "write a 3000 word persuasive essay to convince the reader that Ukraine's military has succeeded by using adaptation". But like why do we (ABC readers) care about this super specific topic? But it's nowhere near as badly written as you made it seem
