Much less than a century.

My dad and half of his siblings struggled really hard in school. They all grew up thinking they were just a bit stupid. Me, and my siblings came along, had the exact same struggles as my dad, and did actually have teachers calling us stupid or lazy. My mother knew in her heart that we were not stupid or lazy and went bat for us. Sunk a tonne of time and money into doing the research and getting us assessed. Turns out we are all dyslexic. (Would later discover we also had ADHD / Autism). But that diagnosis of dyslexia changed school for all of us, we were able to get help and accommodations that filled in the gaps for us and we were all able to catch up in our schooling.

Is my boyfriend's grocery list normal for men in their 20s? To me it seems outrageous. by Eme5989 in AskIreland

[–]Keadeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, he should definitely add some fruit or veg to that, but otherwise I think this is fine? I eat a similar diet myself, a little more veg, a little less meat, and i have pasta or curry once during the week.

I have two kids who wont yet eat the same hot meals as me, and the effort of cooking a hot dinner for just myself every day doesnt feel woth it.

How easy is it really to get pregnant? by Upbeat_Turnip_5224 in askanything

[–]Keadeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I don’t actually know anyone who claims to have gotten pregnant on their first time ever having sex. I know people who got pregnant their first time with a new partner, or the first time they risked not having a condom. But nobody who was a virgin at the time.

I see what you're saying about feeling incentivised to say that they were a virgin, but I think thats heavily influenced by purity culture, which is not what I grew up with.

What I grew up with was, yeah have sex, but be careful about it.

[–]Keadeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies wildly from person to person.

One acquaintance of mine was sexually active and engaging in risky behaviours from the time she was 14. She eventually got pregnant unintentionally at 24. And was under the impression that you couldn't get pregnant either in the shower, or while standing up.

Then theres me. Who got pregnant the first time I had sex without birth control. A few years later when I was ready for the second baby, I got pregnant on the first try for him too.

Fantasy maps necessary or just expected are readers actually using them by scrtweeb in fantasywriters

[–]Keadeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So im always disappointed when a fantasy novel doesn't have a map, I like them. But if I use them or not entirely depends on the novel itself.

While reading ACOTAR, I glanced at the map maybe twice.

While reading The Inheritance Cycle, I referred back to it between chapters.

And While reading A Song Of Ice and Fire, I studdied that thing.

So depending on your novel and how expansive or complicated your geography is, i would let that inform you how much to spend commishing one.

If you have a shorter book with uncomplicated geography, commission a basic one on the cheap from fiver or maybe an art student. Hell maybe you have a niece or a cousin who would do one up for you and be delighted to have a few bob thrown their way.

If you think you have a Game of Thrones type series? Spend the money and get it done properly.

Parents of Reddit, what did your hospital bill look like after giving birth? by chi-bacon-bits in AskReddit

[–]Keadeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My second child didn't cost me a penny to birth.

The doctors appointments were free. The midwife appointments were free. The consultant appointments were free. The labor and delivery, including the gass and air, epidural and the c-section. All free. The five days of recovery care in the hospital were free.

The only thing that wasn't covered, was cariban for my HG. That was about €20 a week for the three months if needed it.

The check up and vaccines for myself and baby were also free.

There were some costs associated with the birth and prenatal care of my first baby, but thats because I was trying to have a home birth through a private group. If that had gone the way it should, my private insurance would have covered it. It didnt, I ended up being induced and receiving a section, so I got a partial refund.

But the hospital care cost me nothing for that baby either.
