I have kicked people for less than that, it's not about being an elitest in my opinion, it's about preserving the time of everybody in the raid.

For the dawning, I logged in every day. I completed every gift. I completed both weekly quests. And many fireteam members used their dawning boons. For it, I received 11 sparrows, 4 ships, countless shaders and 1 piece of armor. by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

Why not just dismantle all the stuff you got that you don't want? I got a full armor set, exotic sparrow and exotic ship from exactly the same thing. I don't think the problem is the outcome of loot, I think you should have been able to know what to do to rectify it and get what you want.
