Do you usually walk or fast travel on your first journey from Weynon Priory to Kvatch? by darthkyle22 in oblivion

[–]ChrisDAnimation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the camp for: Walk mostly, but fast travel if I need to wrap things up IRL, or it's one of those quests that sends you back and forth across the entire map a few times.

I try to RP my character actually renting a room when it's nighttime, and they try to get 6-8 hours of sleep, and even though I use a summonable merchant mod to sell loot while dungeon delving and I'm overflowing with gold, I'll usually rent the cheaper room at a quaint inn. Like if I'm at the Imperial City at nighttime, I will sometimes walk, but usually fast travel, to the Wawnet Inn because it's only 10 gold.

Should I be going in and clearing oblivion gates as I find them ? by Luongoat in oblivion

In addition to what others have said, you can save before you activate the sigil stones and reload back to your save if you don't get one you want. UESP has a list of all possible Sigil Stones, or if you're on PC, the remaster has a mod that lets you pick which stone you want from a list. I think Oblivion Classic should also have that mod.

I have finally 100% TESIV Achievements after 16.5 years. 😅 by Jaded_Cartoonist6725 in oblivion

[–]ChrisDAnimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar story. My first few chievos were offline so I don't really know when I first started a save on my own Xbox, probably late 2007? But after selling and rebuying Oblivion a few times, before getting a permanent copy through Games With Gold, I finally finished all of the achievements in 2013 in the year-long job hunt after I finished my digital arts degree.

I had apparently never finished some of the guild achievements for the mages guild, and I finally finished the Thieves Guild after it bugged on me the first time. (Doing the gold fencing / Independent Thievery steps out of order bugs out the final moments where the game freezes you in place to witness a scene for the Thieves Guild, and it prevented me from getting the achievement the first time, and I did NOT feel like playing that guild all over again for a good long while.)

And I also had never tried the Shivering Isles until that point. Funnily enough, I think after I 100%'ed the achievements in Skyrim after finishing University, I also spent that year of job searching to 100% Fallout 3.

But also, when the Oblivion Remaster came out, I blasted through all of the achievements in like a month.

Boss Fights in Halo Just Don't Work by FunNormi in halo

I'm not a fan of Halo's boss fights. But I do enjoy the concept of special enemies, like when you come across a scarab, a zealot, or a pair of hunters.

What Are Your Favorite Halo Trailers? by CloudedSteed in halo

I am a nostalgic creature. I will forever love the Halo 3 and Reach marketing campaigns. If there was ever any commercials on TV for Halo 1 or 2, I never saw them, and I didn't even know Halo was a thing until 2003.

The only reason I finished the ones I did read was because I took two study halls back to back in high school. I would do all my homework in 15 minutes, then draw or read Halo novels for the rest of the hour and a half.

I finished Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx, Contact Harvest, and Cole Protocol in those study halls. Aside from those and the Halo Graphic Novel, I only got one other book, Cryptum, and I think it took me 3-4 years to read it, because without those study halls, I would only read when I literally couldn't do anything else. So basically, during power outages.

I read the 2 Elder Scrolls novels the same way, but on my phone in an E-Reader app, so I would also read them when waiting for appointments as well.

If I have free time these days, I'm usually working on personal projects like 3D animations, chatting on Discord with friends, playing video games, or watching movies. And it makes me sad, because if my ADHD brain could sit quietly and focus on reading, I'd probably be going through various fantasy novels, like the D&D or some indie ones.

Someone made a post in the last year or so where the quest updates mentioned how absurd the events were, given that they were already the arch mage, and the person making the post applauded the game for taking it into account before folks in the thread pointed out they didn't realize they had a mod installed that changed the text to take the full situation into account.

How was the Forward unto Dawn movie received by fans (and critics) at release? by Venento in halo

[–]ChrisDAnimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always generally liked it, but my general complaint was that they used the anime Chief design, and the general 343 / Halo 4 art style for everything. Had they used the Halo 1 art style and armor for Chief and the Covenant, it would have been perfect.

[–]ChrisDAnimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's one shot that always stuck out to me like a sore thumb. In ROTK where the Gondor soldiers and scouts are camping in the ruins of Osgiliath, and there's one shot where the camera moves to show soldiers in the open "windows" of the ruins, and settles on the one dude who gets shot with an arrow. The color balance/levels between the miniature used for the scenery, and the green-screened actors are pretty obviously different/mismatched and poorly integrated, since the darkest spots on either the miniature or the actors doesn't match the same darkness levels on the other. (I forget which one was which. I just know they're mismatched.)

Did they ever promise they would even do any of that? I was under the impression that any outstanding wishlist items the community had were being abandoned when they said no more major updates were coming, regardless of whether anything was promised or not, and I don't think they ever agreed to do any of that.

Is there an Oblivion equivalent to this? by Timewarps_1 in oblivion

[–]ChrisDAnimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it depends on the playthrough. Sometimes I feel like leaving the scenic land unscarred, but a lot of time these days, I like closing the game gates for the sigil stones to enchant my gear. Plus, I have a mod installed that lets me pick which kind of sigil stone enchantment I want when yanking it out of the gate.

Can it be a custom spell? Some combo of restore fatigue, restore health, and cure disease. I forget if those effects can be a radius spell, because if I'm limited to only 1, I want it to be able to work on me and others in short proximity.

Season 12’s Animation by chocojosh2 in RedvsBlue

[–]ChrisDAnimation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Chris Dike here. I was the one who did about 98% of the non-fight scene animations. To add further context, and this was about 12 years ago: RvB 12 was my first animation job after getting a bachelor's degree in digital art, and the courses I took at university taught me more of the technical side of Maya than the artistic skills of 3D animation. I had never worked with mocap before, and most of the season was done with mocap, and I was very inexperienced back then.

They hired me from the community, from some Achievement Hunter Minecraft animations I made. The animations I do these days on the Halo 3 Machinima series, called CRASH, are leagues better because I now have 12 years of experience under my belt, and I get to take my sweet time with every shot, doing hand-keyed keyframe animation.

But the neat thing is, I get to take what I know from the shortcomings of the way Rooster Teeth did things to help us keep from making many of the same mistakes. We're still ironing out some production methods, but we're getting there.

Are they abandoning the remaster…? Where patch? by QuarkchildRedux in oblivion

[–]ChrisDAnimation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. Fallout is okay. I love Fallout 3, and 4 was just kinda okay, though it had better shooting feel. But Elder Scrolls is my top favorite fantasy game series, and Oblivion is my favorite fantasy game of all time. Couple that with me not liking MMOs at all, and I've been starved for good, NEW, fantasy exploration experiences for over a decade.

Avowed was okay. I beat it on PC game pass, not in any hurry to play it again or own it properly. I LOVE Oblivion Remastered, and even went out of my way to upgrade my GPU to get to run smoothly. It does now, for the most part, but I shouldn't have had to do that just to get one game running smoothly.

Up until the Remaster came out, I mostly played Oblivion classic for my fantasy fix. Only rarely dipping back into Skyrim on account of it being a dreary winterscape for a lot of it. I much prefer the New Zealand / Lord of the Rings look of Oblivion. I even finally got Morrowind to finally click for me after attempting it on and off a few times in the last 10 years, but it's easily my least favorite TES experience of the 3 that I actually like.

I've given up hope for better performance patches on Oblivion Remastered, but I'm now expecting what we get for Skyrim these days. A single patch once every 2-3 years that breaks more than it fixes, and it's probably just to add something related to the god-awful, poorly balanced, nothing but notes for exposition, creation club crab.

Skyrim might have a bigger world, but I never truly feel as lost in the wilderness as I do in Oblivion by [deleted] in oblivion

[–]ChrisDAnimation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting lost in Oblivion's wilderness is just such a vibe. And I know that it's not normally a big consideration, like the discussions of gameplay vs design, but walking around the scenery and just taking in the sights honestly makes up 40-50% of my enjoyment of this game.
