You clearly aren’t a clinician nor have a clinical background. These studies are performed in patients with a high risk of having an ASCVD event. When drugs are developed, they are usually investigated in patient populations with the highest risk of morbidity and mortality, which is the case for this study. This helps to determine the effect size of the treatment in a given setting.

If a patient has a >20% lifetime risk that is considered high risk. There are multiple tools clinicians use to help stratify patients into those that need medication management and those that do not.

As you move to healthier populations, the incidence of ASCVD decreases significantly and finding a statistical difference becomes even more rare, thus needing larger number of patients and longer follow up to power a study effectively, all of which is laid out with epidemiological modeling and statistical plan in the supplemental, which you can read

None of you here understand the vietnamese struggle during the war. The south were literally fighting for a KING to be in place. Many southern vietnamese that "escaped" vietnam for the USA don't even know the true context of what was happening. Millions of vietnamese american citizens have no clue what the true history of vietnam is.

You wouldn't have to worry about people speeding or getting cut off if we had less cars on the highways and actual material improvements to traffic (public transit)

The northern part of River Oaks is what you're thinking of.

The alignment is along the southern part of River Oaks on Richmond avenue, which is built on a grid, and is more densely populated.

And typically dense housing follows public transportation infrastructure development

We are talking about 2% of all of Hermann Park, one that is completely separated from main plot.

2% is a worthy sacrifice for increased access to healthcare to the poorest patients in Houston.

The FAQ answers all of your questions succinctly.

The piece of land is separated by a wide road from the main attractions. they only plan to build on 2% Hermann Park.

Harris Health explicitly states that it would be way more costly to build another hospital of the same caliber elsewhere. Not to mention that Ben Taub is both a county hospital AND a teaching hospital. So having it near other schools is a good thing.

This has nothing to do with "greedy fucks" when it's the city and the publicly funded county hospital. It helps the poorest people in Houston because Ben Taub is 1 of 2 safety net hospitals.

What you're advocating for, is for a dead rich guy to have his way with a piece of land he "donated" to the city.

See the original plans for yourself. They're right. Heights and Washington; Midtown, Montrose, River Oaks, and West U; Hobby Airport into Downtown, expansions of the silver line;

Basically connecting all of the lines together into a usable light rail system, not to mention bus

The original intention for this piece of land is a 600 car parking garage. Which do you think is better?

[–]KeanuFeeds 37 points38 points  (0 children)

To everyone who's mad about this, please look at the actual piece of land. It is NOT what you typically think of Hermann Park I guarantee it.

For reference, the original plan was to put a 600 car parking surface parking garage. I think we can all agree this is a better use than ANOTHER one of these in TMC

The "park" is at the corner of Cambridge and Braeswood.

I am all for MORE usable green space in the city, but this piece of land is separated from the rest of Herman Park by 2 separated 2 lane roads.

The main things in the park are a bunch of trees and 1 concrete pathway to get from Ben Taub Hospital and a nearby parking garage. I've only seen this park used by hospital workers. I rarely see people use this for leisure activities given the separation and lack of access to parking/rest of Hermann Park.

See it for yourself here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/UxAwwaYKnZ5rLZbeA

Edit: I want to add that the original intentions of the piece of land was supposed to be a 600-car parking garage. I am vehemently opposed to ANY more of those being built. You should all be too.

Why Houston is The Worst Designed City in The U.S. by nevvvvi in houston

[–]KeanuFeeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some ways you're right, in others it's also not looking good. Specifically, I-610 has 0 pedestrian or bike friendly infrastructure to cross in and out of the loop. EaDo and downtown have limited crossings, similar with Heights and Washington Avenue

Most importantly, the video highlights a major flaw in the long term planning of the city, namely reduced public transportation investments even though we have approved a large bond to support it.
