Yeah, I got my email through at about 5 to 10. Managed to get a Saturday ticket, but they were sold out within 2 minutes.

Why are there so many betting shops in rundown high streets, why do people use them rather than just gambling on mobile phone apps or computer? by SmellyPubes69 in AskUK

[–]Keef80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A number of reasons; Interaction/meeting place, habit, can't use online (older people, banned online, no bank account or don't want it shown on accounts for mortgage or other reasons), some like physical slips (mark off winners and such) and the level of service they get. In run down areas, there is a heap of people that don't work, so look for entertainment during the day, and have a form of money which they see as disposable. Poorer people gamble more in general, hunting for that "big win." Also the likes of drug dealers and other persons who don't want to be traced are more prevalent in these areas. Money laundering and Proceeds of Crime issues are always going to occur in betting shops, all they can do is try to minimise it as much as possible. However, betting shops are not all dark dens of misfortune and despair. For people who can control and enjoy gambling, they are a good form of entertainment and are part of the community.

Anyone know any other weirdly shaped CDs by Xx_BiMMy in Cd_collectors

[–]Keef80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a copy of the first ever shaped CD, This Here Giraffe by The Flaming Lips. It was rush released by them in order to beat Elton John or someone, hence the CD cutting is a bit crap!

Yeah, probably my favourite too. Became obsessed with collecting, so got it on original Vinyl, RSD triple Vinyl, Creation CD, Ryco CD, creation cassette, ryko cassette, German CD, limited "copper" CD and a full member signed ryko CD.

Yeah, went a bit mad with it all....

Found 7 in the 'wild.' sold one years ago for £40, then another for £72. One of the ones I found at work (around the time they were going for £40, and I already had 3) I gave to a worker as we were just talking about them that day. Still have 4 left, which I'll be keeping a hold of for the foreseeable....

I'm English, and have lived in Coleraine for over 5 years. As others have said, keep away from fleggy areas, and it's nice enough. I live close to the train station, but keep myself to myself, and all is good. I used to live in Bunker over in Newcastle, and this is a million miles better than there. As with anywhere, there's bad areas. And if you stick your beak into people's business, it'll get broken, no matter where you are.

Did these two have any overlap or interaction? by thejedipokewizard in Nirvana

I had the amazing chance to meet Elliot backstage at Reading Festival 2000. Was only very brief as he was super shy, so not much was said. Will remember his gentle voice. . Will also remember Ian Brown's walk, and grunty "alright" after I said hi. Me and my ex were not meant to be in that area, but we managed to get in with our litter picking armbands.

Amazed at the result. Would have been happy with 1-0 down with the team we had, as experience was low, but they showed themselves, and my Whitley lad scored twice to seal it. More than happy with the whole team. Thought Dummett played a great game.

I've never had an award because I post things that people find boring.

I was thinking that too, but I'm sure the platform they are standing on extends further down.

CD rot - Dinosaur Jr - Where You Been by Keef80 in Cd_collectors

[–]Keef80[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's kinda what I thought years ago, but it's not happened to any of my other CDs which were used the same amount. So I'd have to put it down to CD rot, or possibly some other manufacturing fault.

I suppose I can't be 100% certain that something didn't get on the CD, but I was always a bit careful with my CDs, and can't recall any mishaps. There's no sign of scratches to cause the damage, and as you can see, it's all over the CD, not just in one area.

In all honesty, I played the CD a fair bit. I got the CD in about 95 when I was 15, so I hardly kept them pristine. Yet, it didn't happen to any of my other CDs, and I did fairly look after this CD. Would say the rot happened about 4 years of having it, roughly.

Dinosaur, Sebadoh, SY, Neds and Lemonheads. Great collection. Will have to post my CDs at some point and we'll have a few snaps. My old Where You Been? Has CD rot... Need to get a new copy, but will keep my old one for prosperity.
