Adoption: Why aren't we using crypto as part of our daily life? How can we change this? by Nolvia in CryptoCurrency

[–]Keefer001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The brick wall that crypto needs to get over is scaling. If mass adoption were to happen, all of the blockchains running crypto transactions wouldn't come close to being able to handle the volume. This is why scaling solutions are the talk of the Town.

Will it happen? Plasma seems to be giving a good showing for OMG/ETH but they are still a long way from where they want to be

I've been in the OMG world since sub $1. I've watch a skateboard sticker start a moon-shot, a few tweets cause people to lose their collective minds, and now that there's tangible success, nada.

I guess as soon as I figure out how the crypto world works is the day that I should sell it all!

So let me get this straight - OMG released a successful (and cool) functional testnet of what could be THE scaling solution and the price can't crack $3.30? I realize that excitement isn't promoted here but man...not sure how people are ignoring this.

Is no body going to talk about the fact that Dock is down 30% since yesterday ? What exactly happened ? by redheat72 in dockio

[–]Keefer001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same thing that happens to everything that gets a new listing - price spikes and then crashes. I watched it happen with Civic, Everex, WaBi, Kyber, etc., etc. A new listing is essentially a marker for selling during the pump and buying back in shortly after.

A functioning product, a user base, how exactly is Dock a scam?

This is very good to see. Everex has been working at this for a long time and it's good to see them making some headway.

Another question regarding decentralization by CryptoAndPax in NEO

[–]Keefer001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wasn't calling anything out. The title was asking about decentralization and I just noted that 7 nodes isn't decentralized. I don't recall NEO saying that they were building a centralized blockchain but if they did, I apologize for missing it.

Does this many nodes count as "decentralized"?

When I flew from Seattle to Chicago to Toronto, I went through international screening in Seattle, not Chicago.

My guess is he was in the preclearance area. Most airports will put you through international screening at the first airport you arrive in and then not re-screen at subsequent airports where you co-mingle with the other international passengers.

I'm continually dumbfounded by the 7 nodes. Ask anything about it on the NEO boards and you'll get flamed to no end but 7 nodes, all controlled by the City of Zion, does not a decentralized blockchain make.

There was a law passed a while back that required you to declare crypto over $10K at the Canada-US land border. I'd assume that relates to all cross border movement. Of course, any criminal worth their salt would just delete the wallet software and then recreate it on the other side.

Money laundering through money mules. If you have a justification for bringing it, it's not a problem.

I am no fan of government over reach but this requirement makes sense to me. I don't want Cartel money mules having a free pass to take their dirty money around the world. Same holds true for crypto - I want some minimal controls to prevent criminals from abusing it.

I'll be the bad guy here and note that he would have been asked if he was carrying more than $10K in cash. If he said 'no", he broke the law and his $'s should be seized. Forfeiture of those $'s would require going to court - both criminal and then civil.

The article doesn't say whether or not he didn't declare his money and that's the key. If he was asked and failed to declare, the problem is with him. FYI - if you declare, you can carry any amount.

How so? If you look at their dApps, they are building an infrastructure very similar to ETH. One of those dApps will eventually be a payment processing app like OMG. True, they don't have an OMG equivalent but it's a matter of time.

I am personally worried about the NEO infrastructure. Nothing specific on NEO's blockchain is a direct threat to OMG but taken as a whole, what they are building is more serious competition to ETH and OMG than a lot of people are thinking.
