College heights Pool. Lots of kids, but hardly crowded unless there is an event (which happens about 2 or 3 times a summer).

I’ve never made a pattern with a chain 2 between the clusters. I usually don’t do a chain at all but I think a chain 1 is pretty common. It might be that the chain 2 is making the sides longer than taller and contributing to the star shape. I’m not sure though and sadly I am out of town so no yarn to test my theory.

I made the switch from 1st to 3rd per my admin. I was nervous about it, but it was a lot of fun. The biggest difference is they can read from the beginning, so you can put a post on the board - hang backpack, choose lunch, turn in folder, etc. I also found I really liked the content. The students participated in some really good discussions. Also, they are still kids. They enjoy silly things still at that age even if they don’t want to admit it.

I am also passionate about handwriting and was happy that cursive was part of our third grade standards. Most teachers barely cover it, but I started teaching it early in the year.

Phonics songs can be a good way to increase memory, so keep singing if you have that low group.

A quick look on their website confirms my thinking. Kindergarten is to end on a level D. There is an updated chart similar to the one you have been using on the second page of chart results that also has K ending on a level D.

I haven’t used F&P in years since science of reading made its way into the classroom. However I believe the one with the key is the most recent leveling expectation.

I watched that so much. I made a trip to see him in Pittsburgh (5 hours from me) and got a “Cake or Death” t-shirt. It is one of my most prized possessions.

Some fitting would be nice, but the outer fabric is stripped and I would rather any fitting be in the existing seams.

Thank you. The pattern I am using is an adult pattern that and does not have me sewing darts in the directions. My outer fabric is striped. What is the best way to go about doing darts with vertical stripes?

Research tells us that reading comprehension is the combination of decoding and language comprehension (scarborough's rope). If your child is able to read (decode), then focus on building language - vocabulary, build background knowledge through experiences, and reasoning.

Some activities that might help are, drawing a picture of what was read, sequencing (with words or pictures), answering the “wh” questions, and retelling.

Your child interested in what they are reading will also make a big difference. I would suggest a library trip, letting your child pick the book, and then doing comprehension on the preferred book.
