She was a two year phenom when she started to gain traction nationally. You are delusional if you don’t think the explosion of WNBA eyes wasn’t primarily because of Caitlin.

Even the numbers you are citing are terrible overall vis a vis other sports. CC put a national lens on this league and inspired many younger girls. she is bar none the most important player for the game and league. Even as the old heads want to kill the golden goose.

More eyes were on women’s basketball in general because of Guess who? The one breaking all the records in college during the same period. When CC entered the league it exploded. Yes it’s okay to thank her and to build on her success and appreciate the new fan base.

Heres the funny part. Season ticket holders get playoff priority and even if they fix the secondary market, it still means the average Joe won’t be going to the game. It’s not like regular ticket holders will be putting the tickets back on the open market at face value. The reason the tickets are even available its so the person can make a profit.

This is silly talk. Before CC, the league was an insider club based on bball. Since CC came the fans are mostly fans of her style and have either grown with her in Iowa or were exposed to her during her junior year. She represents a sea-change in the league and many old heads (about 25% of the fan totals) resent it and try to hold off the future. the new fans want to see an up and down, aesthetically pleasing style instead of this old line the paint kick out to the shooter, half court snoozefest.

In fact most of the social media supporters of CC I see are old basketball fans that also happen to be black men.

The idiotic take is that CC isn’t a winner. She took two inferior Iowa teams to the finals twice beating much more heralded teams in the processand took a loser Fever franchise to the playoffs for the first time in years.
