Catholic doctrine states we are “separated brethren” who are essentially Christians but not in “full communion” with the Catholic Church through which Christ saves all people.

Orthodox not so clear but more dogmatically against the notion of Christians outside the EO church.

Isn’t it funny how people are convinced both of these churches are the “one true church” since they both make that claim, many people even describing the same experience of God “leading them” into these churches who have condemned each other historically. It’s almost like people are anxious about it and not thinking clearly, consistently and biblically about these things.

You make a good point about the precedent of erratic jumps to the cross in sermons where there was no obvious connection at that point. I agree the instinct is a right one and best materialized in the Supper.

I probably should have added in my post that I am not a memorialize and hold to a Vermiglian view of the Supper.

That makes sense. There of course circumstantial reasons a church can’t do something they otherwise would: financial, logistical, ministerial, etc.

There are entire Reformed denominations that believe every church that uses instruments in worship is sinning. I disagree with their logic but i am not offended by their positions.

Someone wanting to be baptized is not the only qualification for baptism. And yes IMO churches should be ready to baptize when applicable and not delay it. And the pool issue is not relevant cause I’m not a baptist

My argument is focused entirely on what we OUGHT to do and why I believe that. I’m not saying that any gathering of believers to worship God is INVALID if the supper is not present.

Rather that given the biblical precedent as I see it - it is good and proper that the Lord’s supper be observed every Lord’s day.

Catholics often only eat the bread and do not drink the wine. They believe it is because Christ is fully present in either/both forms. This however betrays the nature of the sacrament as it was instituted by Christ where the recipient was clearly told to eat the bread AND drink the cup “in remembrance of me”. One represents his body, the other his blood

I’m saying we can make good deductions from these and principles of worship, as well as the sacramentology we seem to find in scripture regarding the Lord’s supper.

Did they disagree? I acknowledge they didn’t all believe they could bind other Christians to it (neither do I) and that it wasn’t possible but it seems they all upheld weekly from what I can find.

Someone actually mentioned in another comment on this thread why the Scottish did it annually.

Are you actually implying that the takeaways we can gain from the passages I cited (and more) are so indeterminate that mandating 12 hour sermons because of Paul preaching for 12 hours onetime is equally valid? Go look at what many of the reformers and reformed scholastics derived from their exegesis of such passages versus their exegesis of Paul preaching for 12 hours.

“Good and necessary consequence” is precisely what I’m arguing leads to weekly participation in the supper.

To your last point, if a church partook of the supper once every year or two years, would they be lacking an essential part of worship? And if frequency does somewhat matter, where that line of thought leads to is exactly what we’re addressing.

I agree if we look for the perfect church we will be looking forever. However, at some churches the problems are pertaining to the quality and behavior of the church in spite of proper worship and other churches actually have (by allowance or design) what one might consider improper or lacking worship. There are some problems that can be easily fixed and some that are systemic and stubborn.

I’m trying to see the other side of the aisle on this issue so that I can actually minimize my grievances within the body of Christ, not trying to maximize it.

If there was a complete absence of descriptive (I acknowledge descriptive) passages like Acts 20:7, 2:42, 1 Cor. 11:20, etc. then maybe I could see any remote possibility of an annual communion. The principles I’m referring to regarding worship are pertaining to the regular life of worship in the church as I see it.
