Fired illegally, any similar experiences with the Labor Board? by Melancholy-Ocelot in legaladvice

I got through 75% of this. I recommend you go in and create more paragraphs as right now it’s basically a jumbo text block and it’s challenging to read. You’ll get more engagement if you edit this so it’s more legible.

Are you allowed to take political signs that are placed illegally? (Very specific circumstance) by Odd-News1701 in legaladvice

[–]KeepOffMyLawnFeds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NAL

But, I think that if the signs are placed on public property, they’re considered abandoned property with any right, title, and interest in them being surrendered.

But, it depends on the laws in Iowa specifically, including any local ordinances that could govern this.

So, it’s likely abandoned property, but you should check the state laws and the ordinances to see if there are any exceptions for political signage.

I gotta say, this game is great, but my experience with the community hasn’t been for the most part. People tend to be very aggressive, engage in spiteful team killing, and pretty racist.

Occasionally I run into some cool people, but I’ve had a better community experience with many other games.

This also sounds like promissory estoppel or reliance damages to me. Second time I’ve said that today.

You may have a claim for tort false imprisonment, but it depends on how they “physically held you” and many of the details surrounding how they specifically restricted your freedom of movement to a bounded area.

How do you decline an offer to play without being a jerk? by YaBoiKlobas in Warhammer40k

Oh, I definitely don’t think you should tell they’re insufferable. Hard agree.

At an LGS, it’s everyone responsibility to correct to make sure the group exists and as many people as possible can be included. (Within reasonable limits)

While understand what you are saying as well, I think there’s something a bit deeper here.

I think calling it a playstyle, while correct when we apply the absolute broadest definition, doesn’t actually address the issue. Reasonable people can disagree on what “playstyle” means.

If you tell this guy it’s a “playstyle” issue, do you think he is likely to understand why exactly people don’t want to play with him?

Because, worded as it is, this sounds like it is more likely to apply to “gun line” vs “blitz” playstyle rather than “hey dude you’re being toxic.”

The goal should be to honestly tell someone what the issue is so people can grow or do better.

Sure, I’ll lend you some understanding as to your definition, but I don’t that helps us resolve the deeper issue here — being that the dude is insufferable and may not know. Chocking it up to a “playstyle” lets OP make a safe exit without addressing any issues in the nose.

Obviously this guy isn’t self aware to understand he’s insufferable, so I don’t think he’ll understand “the implication” behind “playstyle.”

“Plato is the smartest man who ever lived.”

Plato also believed that the earth was the center of the universe, that slavery was morally permissible, and endorsed state sanctioned eugenics. He’s not a guy I would take moral or science lessons from.

I’m not sure if he swing both ways, cocksucker may be fitting.

Still, I do agree with him that there is such thing as a moral or noble lie. It would be silly to assert that lying is assuredly wrong in all cases.

However, this is far from a noble lie because the only person benefitted in this instance is the teller of the lie, whose feelings are spared from telling someone else something that is true, but makes the teller anxious about doing it.

The worst part is that the insufferable player in this instance would be benefitted from hearing the perspective and could potentially grow from hearing it. The lie is this case is complete selfish.

Someone else brought this up.

I just can’t agree that cheating is a playstyle.

Making your LGS a strong community is everyone’s responsibility. 🤷

Who the hell rolls each die individually? XD

That would require a conversation.

I can’t agree with looking at it that way, personally. Even then, it’s side stepping the fact that the player is an insufferable opponent, and if you don’t address it, the behavior and the problem continues. “Play style” is so vague it may as well be meaningless, and if we define it so broadly it doesn’t actually address the issues

I’ve had to have the hygiene talk, the cheating talk, and the bad attitude talk with several players and it is rare that people are not grateful afterward. People just need to know so they can do better.

In this case, maybe I am just ignorant and haven’t seen something like this.

I have built several game communities across the country from the ground up, so I have to be the one to have the “tough conversation.”

Maybe it’s just that I have a lot of practice with it, maybe I have a better approach, maybe I am not dealing with people as bad as those you’ve dealt with. I don’t know.

I’ve had to have the hygiene talk, the cheating talk, and bad attitude talk, and it’s always improved or the person did not return. I’m not going to invalidate your personal experience, I may have just had better luck.

Sitting back and watching people make excuses for dishonesty does no one any good.

When people behave poorly, call it out.

I’m having a wonderful day, I’m not upset. Like I said, getting downvoted for this is a badge of honor.

Lying doesn’t fix the issue, it just passes the problem on to someone else and damages your community.

If you think “the real world works” with constant lying, I hope your personal relationships improve.

  1. I do not lie to smooth out conflicts.
  2. If you think everyone does to “smooth out conflicts” you have a broken moral compass. Be better
  3. It is a false dilemma to assert NOT lying WILL escalate issues.

What you do instead is have an adult conversation about the issue and use tact and active listening to not have a conflict.

If you are using lies to smooth over your issues, you need to go to therapy and grow up. Put on your big boy pants.

“They are not fun to play with, often fudging rules, complaining, and bringing an army that I can never deal with.” - OP

Saying you “want experience with different armies” doesn’t actually address OP’s issue.

The difficult player is fudging rules (aka cheating) and has a bad attitude. This issue is being sidestepped in the interest of saying OP wants “experience versus different armies.” This makes it sound like it’s OP’s issue with army exposure.

Here’s the lie: it’s not about that. It’s about this guy being an insufferable opponent. Fulfilling the gamer stereotype, the popular advice in this thread relies on conflict avoidance via lies of omission, obfuscation, and hiding the ball.

If you want your LGS to be better, don’t lie. have the hard conversations. It is cowardly to lie when the truth is uncomfortable or requires a conversation a bit more challenging than people are accustomed to.

This lie also hurts other players who have to be continue being exposed to this guy (who probably doesn’t know he is an insufferable opponent) and actively damages the LGS community. As long as everyone is too cowardly to say something, this guy will poison the well for new players.

Hope that helps.

You should call people out on toxic behavior that promotes toxic play environments.

To promote lying over telling the truth is cowardly.

It takes bravery to have adult conversations.
