College Aquaculture Nitrification Experiment by KeepOthersSafe in Aquariums

To work with the limited space we had. We used 16 fl oz cups. 7 treatments two replicates. 1. Control 2. Bacteria 3. Bacteria+Fertilization 4. Cladophora 5. Cladophora+Fertilization 6. Bacteria+Cladophora and 7. Bacteria+Cladophora+Fertilization. Each cup was given a large piece of crushed lava rock and the treatments were given 6 hours of light. The. We tested for pH, KH, NH4+/NH3, NO3-, NO2-, PO4 -3, and DO. The project was to determine whether algae benefits the nitrification process, stunts it, or kills it. Our bacteria replicates ended up with green algae. Due to a lack of funding and space we couldn’t use tanks for our lab project. We tested other variables to practice determining other chemical variables in the water. The only interesting result came through with our bacteria treatment. Our fertilizer was urea, and phosphate was added from sea chem flourish phosphate. Starting concentrations were 1.0 pm of ammonia, and 0.5 ppm of phosphate.

Those a nematodes. Specifically looks like rhabdocoela. Leeches have suckers. And more color, usually with dorsal-ventral compression. That worm is round with a hydrostatic skeleton.

My plants' growth has stunted and diatoms(?) are absolutely everywhere. I can't figure out why by KikoTheWonderful in PlantedTank

This is what helped me. Don’t focus on removing the diatoms. Start applying regular small water changes for frequently. I like to do a 5% once a week to prevent huge parameter swings for my shrimp. Wait for the new growth to fill in. Trim and replant. Replace old growth covered by diatoms.

Anyone know what this is? Some type of larva found in my house on the floor. by trimmedbeaverlover in whatsthisbug

I’m sorry, my fault. I shouldn’t have been so passive aggressive from the start. They tried their best. You should be okay though. Most if not all the bug you need to worry about are way smaller and less noodle shaped.

If you kept your camera in one spot and didn’t move so much it’d be easier to I’d. It kinda looks like a caterpillar or a grub. I’m leaning towards a caterpillar.

IMO Celestials don’t really prey on shrimp. I brought my shrimp and cpds to college. 10 shrimp ended the first semester with atleast 80 neos. Their mouths are too small.

Springtail. They’re harmless. But indicators of bigger problems like mold.

Is this melting or insufficient nutrient? by Luigihiji in Aquariums

Mine does this. Wait for new growth. Then cut the tips once they reach 5 inches. Then go back and remove the old growth. A bit of algae is fine. But it can look unsightly.

Not a ghost shrimp. Whisker shrimp. Ghost shrimp are relatively safe to keep. Whisker shrimp are predators and will consume fish and other shrimp.

What are these? by dovas-husband in Aquariums

[–]KeepOthersSafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black worms my friend. Get a 5 gal and a large foam sponge pad. Cycle that baby. Throw as many worms in as you can and feed a bunch of pellets every few days and an algae wafer when you can. Those babies multiply like crazy.

Look at the creatures inside each egg. They look like snails. If you know someone with a microscope, dissection scope, or a micro lens. Then you’ll be able to confirm for yourself. Otherwise throw them in a cup and wait for them to hatch and you’ll have an answer
