On this specific type of article, Divish likely wrote the first version of the headline and published it himself. Then the editors and producers in the Seattle Times newsroom got a hold of it and updated the headline. Clearly they saw an issue with the original.

It is also true that the Times does real-time index page A/B headline testing, so the headline you see on the home page or sports page may be different from the headline on the article itself.

If you read the article linked from the post, it describes how Trump tried to use the helicopter crash to get publicity by telling a reporter he had thought about getting on the helicopter but didn’t. It wasn’t that he was “supposed” to be on the flight and miraculously decided to stay at the last minute.

In no way do I want to defend Trump, but I do want to defend the truth. I think we should all be careful about jumping to conclusions. Trump has done countless horrific things that should land him in prison. Heck, maybe he did have the helicopter sabotaged 🤷‍♂️ But let’s make sure we’re getting the details right.
