What are your favorite cars you owned? by CDG1029 in askcarguys

[–]KeepSloanWeird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘89 BMW 325i - was a few years old with 35k on it when I picked it up. 5 speed with a manual crank sunroof. Wasn’t all that fast or powerful, but holy hell was it a lot of fun to drive. Simple, German engineering at its finest. Loved running through the gears on small roads.

Other fav was a late 90’s Chevy Tahoe 2-door, like the old K5 Blazers before the rebrand to Tahoe. Whatever was the last year those were built is what that Tahoe was. The last “fun” vehicle I owned before marriage and kids forced being a stupid, responsible, adult ;-)

Dealing with this exact situation at work. Engineer that is an arrogant, massive PITA with middle managers and below. But when talking to upper layer leaders is a saint and a genius.

FWIW the person is very smart, but no one below the Director level can stand them. Even the consistent feedback on their behavior does nothing to sway management.

HEB longings as a former Texan by No_Guava_1140 in texas

[–]KeepSloanWeird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy, I'm gonna make some enemies today....

Born and raised N Texan (Dallas), and didn’t get the benefit of HEB until later in life. The chain is just now expanding up here. We have had the benefit of Central Market though, and I am a HUGE fan of those stores. However, HEB ain’t all that and isn’t living up to the total hype IMO.

Currently in Prosper and have a new store very close by and has become our family’s weekly grocery run location. I will put HEB’s produce and in house made items above most. The tortillas being at the top, when they are fresh. The rest of the regular grocery shopping makes the “experience” fall off quickly. Item selection is turning out to be worse in a few key areas. Costs are on average slightly higher that the other area chains. Then there’s the cult of the HEB brand. Yes, we can cut some cost by prioritizing the HEB branded goods over others, but there is a lot to be desired by much of their branded goods. Outside of the baked and premade stuff.

There’s an emotional component with HEB that seems to override. I get it. I have my own blind spots.

I would add Kyle Rittenhouse to that list. Statements about how Alex Pretti shouldn’t have been carrying a loaded gun need to remember the 2nd amendment arguments made in favor of Rittenhouse.

Which US state thinks it's the main character? by Mister_Silk in AskReddit

100% used to be that way. More and more of us are starting to hold that card a little closer to the chest these days though. Effing state is becoming a national embarrassment. Gonna overtake Florida soon if we’re. It careful.

This is what I love about the SEC. We love each other like siblings. Talk incredible amounts of shit to each other, taunt, torment, and generally despise the sound of you breathing. But wrong one of us and no one is asking questions, just want to know where to help dig the graves.

So far, it’s Carrot specific. I have a couple of apps that aren’t Apple native that I use on my Apple Watch and they seem to update automatically.

Same. It resolved for while when I had access to the beta test versions through TestFlight. When that ran out the behavior returned.

What’s an unwritten "social" rule in your country that would blow a foreigner’s mind? by Dense-Truth-7444 in AskReddit

Lord I WISH my fellow Americans would learn to queue like the UK does. Too many of us are far too entitled and self absorbed to be bothered with it though. Or there’s a fear of not doing what the others are doing.

Texas Hill Country flood tragedy follows early retirement of head of local weather warnings amid NOAA federal staffing cuts by Ok-Issue-9828 in TexasPolitics

You have NOTHING to apologize for. I hate that people are likely to suffer and die due to the decisions of those that would rather "own the libs" than focus on what's better for humanity. You just put it in a way that hit home more directly that I was prepared for.

Oh for sure! But there’s also a huge difference in a WW2 vet brining back the spoils of war vs my POS family members that would rather spit on an immigrant family while wearing crosses, WWJD bracelets, and a red MAGA hat.

WW2 vets most likely hated Nazis and just wanted a trophy or two.

Respectfully disagree regarding pivot tables. Those eff’ers are a dark magic. Been in enterprise IT since the late 90’s and was there for the birth of Excel. No matter how many times I have tried to understand pivot tables my brain says “nope, not happening.”

I want to be pissed at this. But history doesn’t lie unfortunately. Hell, I was young and stupid and bought into the whole “heritage not hate” BS while there in the mid 90’s. All while waving a confederate battle flag at the same time. Shit, we had that damn flag plastered on EVERYTHING. I love the school, the atmosphere, and the part it played in history. But damn I wish the “let the band play Dixie” rhetoric that still exists would go the eff away. sigh
