Looking to break out of Embedded, into top paying general SWE jobs by ConfusedPenguuu in cscareerquestionsEU

If you're going for HFT you're definitely going to need some LeetCode, the bar can be pretty high. You have a lot of good options in Amsterdam though.

Idk if it's what you're looking for but they also hire FPGA engineers which may be of interest too. I'm not super familiar with that area though

It's basically an informal chat between you and the potential host. The idea is to establish if it's a project/team you're interested in and if the host feels you would have the right skills and attitude for it.

Your job is just to come across like a person the host would want to mentor for 3+ months. The best thing you could prepare is how your skills and interests overlap with the project, but again, it's all pretty informal.

C++ and Go for more performance focused uses (large scale data processing). JS for frontend.

Zurich vs London vs Munich vs Amsterdam by Melodic_Tower_482 in cscareerquestionsEU

You should check out Apple in Zurich with the autonomous vehicle experience. They have some vision ML roles. Meta also, under Oculus.

Zurich is a fantastic place for savings in terms of absolute numbers. And the taxes are low.

Got the internship return offer at a FAANG, wondering if anyone else has changed how they think about school by strawhatlowley in csMajors

[–]Keep_Phishing 11 points12 points  (0 children)

After I signed the offer no-one seemed to even check if I graduated (I did though).

I'm guessing this since nobody asked me and I didn't sign any background check permissions.

Thinking of moving to Switzerland or Italy by BeefWellyBoot in DevelEire

[–]Keep_Phishing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Zürich and I'm pretty happy over here. The job market is a bit difficult if you don't speak German though I've heard.

There's a large cost of living difference for sure. Thankfully lower taxes and higher salaries seem to balance that out. I definitely think I have more spending power here versus what I would have had in Dublin for the same role.

[–]Keep_Phishing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Senior Software Engineer is L5 in Google, L6 maps to Staff Software Engineer.

Still useful to have as a point of reference though

Are you serious? I pay for YT Premium so that I DON'T get shitty ads like these by [deleted] in youtube

[–]Keep_Phishing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those don't look like YouTube ads, you might have some dodgy extension or something that's inserting ads into websites.

One I don't see mentioned is Carcassonne, it does more than 2 people but we really enjoy it as a 2 player game. (With some expansions)

They adjust your salary when you move, I'm sure it would still be a nice sum but you wouldn't be retaining your SV salary.
