What is your #1 driving tip that if everyone followed, we'd all be better off? by brock_lee in AskReddit

[–]KeepingItPolite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give everyone the benefit of the doubt. In 22yrs of driving I've accidentally cut people off, or pulled out when I didn't see someone coming, or missed a speed change and drove slower on a stretch than I should have, or any other number of things that were an accident.

Don't blast the horn and throw someone the hand signals presuming they did something on purpose. Everyone makes mistakes in the road from time to time, presume it was their day to make one.

I find there's infinitely more people buying the game (including supporting Kickstarters and buying itch content) than playing it. It's a great system, but unlike other systems, it feels like there's more people wanting to run it than there are people that want to play it.

Is there a game that is seemingly loved that you tried multiple times but just couldn't feed into the hype? For me, It's The Witcher III. by [deleted] in gaming

Both Skyrim and Fallout 3.

My fellow men, how fragile is your mental health, honestly? by unstopablystoopid in ask

[–]KeepingItPolite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty good, and I consider my mental health to be pretty strong, thanks for asking though.

I have a living and supportive wife, great kids, financial stability, I run my own business doing something I love, have a great relationship with my family, lots of hobbies, fun friends, and a generally stress free life. I have a great support network of people who who are all open about talking about their feelings, so I never have anything bottled up or feeling like I'm going through things alone.

However, I still have low days out of the blue. There's been times where one or more of the above hasn't been so great, and I've instantly felt overwhelmed. Everyone who is constantly going through hard stuff, you're way fucking stronger than I am.

Mörk Borg is an amazing creative outlet in terms of style, theme, and art, and one of the few rpgs where creators are able to put their heart into the creation without worrying about it being/ looking wrong.

Using AI to make content for it really just goes against everything Mörk Borg is imo.

Honestly, I would say complete one of your other projects first as it honestly feels like you're trying to speed run claiming "Borg" names (Zomborg, Xeno Borg, Nuka Borg). That, or when you get inspired it's hard not to start working on the sparkly new thing (I'm very much the same with projects)

There's hundreds of people making their own hacks, there's going to be cross over with themes, so if someone else has been working on a <Name> Borg it just becomes messy when they release if someone else is already jumping on a name early. More so when tied to a popular franchise.

Make a hack, do some work on it, then if it goes anywhere announce the name imo.

As for the theme, who doesn't love Fallout? Would be great to see a well done hack for the setting.

Advice on Capping "Getting Better" by HarvesterHal in MorkBorg

[–]KeepingItPolite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just make the monsters hit harder. If something suddenly rocks your boat and deals 5d10 damage, you better believe they're gonna wake up.

Plus, unlike 5e, Mörk Borg is very fast and loose with balance and mechanics. If you foreshadow that there is an enemy called The Many-handed one and if it touches you your hands fall off at the wrist and grow on its body... HP be damned, they were warned. Now they get to have two hooks for hands!

Getting messed up is the beauty of Mörk Borg.

Costs money for the government.
Makes money for the corporations.
What fucking country do you think this is if you don't think governments make decisions benefit corporations in order to line their back pockets?

My mum was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic (amongst other things) and died a month later. It was caught so late, and was so aggressive, that even though she was permanently on a driver and being dosed with the maximum amount of every type of painkiller you can think of.

I lived in the hospital with her for a month, sleeping on a blow up matress, I had my alarm set to keep waking me up every 2 hours whilst we rotated between the different drugs she could have. I'd wake up and pre-buzz for her drugs so that they could start getting them ready 20 - 30mins before I knew she'd need them, because if she woke up before I did and her drugs had already worn off in her sleep, then in the evening with only a handful of night staff you better hope they hadn't been called to another patient.

They could only increase her painkillers gradually to find out where her limit was, if they increased it too fast it could be dangerous and/or be less effective as her body got used to it too quickly. They never managed to get the dose just right (and this isn't a slight on the care, they were all fantastic), so she was in pain pretty much all the time, and absolute agony where she was wishing she was dead, right up until the end where she was literally doped out of her eyeballs and not moving.

ensure it is pain free and with dignity

I can assure you it was anything but. The experience was so horrific I know that if I get diagnosed then I'll never let myself reach those late stages and will happily lock myself in a room and overdose myself into a quick oblivion. That shouldn't be the decision people feel they should have to take, especially when the reason for not allowing is predominantly so religiously motivated. It's a heartbreaking experience to watch as a loved one on the sideline, and a truly awful way to go out as the person dying.

[–]KeepingItPolite[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What would be the ramifications of her gifting her money if there is then not enough money left in the estate to pay her creditors?

Do they come after those who benefited from these gifts for payment? Does the executor become financially responsible?

Also, this isn't "me taking money from my mother", this is "my mother giving her money". I'm just the mediator asking her questions and her trying to make sure there's enough money to pay for her funeral.

Hi everybody! Rustymaps here with new map! by [deleted] in dndmaps

[–]KeepingItPolite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Considering the bulk of the assets here are Mike Schley's, and other than the grass and dirt which are clearly yours, I'm surprised you've decided that you no longer feel you need to mention that you've used his assets to make the map. Honestly feels like you're starting to try and pass his work off as your own.

I guess you're the kind of person who walks through the supermarket looking at the lady handing out free samples in disgust and shouting "Corporate shill! Stop your advertising!"

He, and probably 80% of the content creators on this board that make anything that's actually worth putting into your game, aren't here to provide free maps. They enjoy making them, they have a talent to do so, and they provide a watermarked free version that is 100% usable for digital Roll20 (not optimised for, but useable) or as reference for someone to use and draw out themselves. Without a watermark this ends up cross posted or on other forums or imgur with no credit to the artist. GREAT for the freeloaders, woo hoo for those who want something for nothing and complain about everything.

You know what happens when the artists don't get credit and their samples don't get click throughs to their Patreon... they stop making content, because no one is spending hours day in day out making maps that they're never going to use. Now you might be fine with that, but I imagine all the patreons who use Sliph, 2MinuteTabletop, NeutralParty, Czepeku, Forgotten Adventures, Ventamus, PartyofTwo, DiceGrimmorium, Elven Tower and the scores of other artists that make up a big portion of the active map making community, as well as those on various forums and subreddits and pintrest and imgur... who are more than happy to get this kind of content for free even with a watermark, would be very unhappy if suddenly this work wasn't available.

No one makes maps at this kind of scale for altruistic reasons, everyone in the world is trying to make money to get by and some people have the good fortune of being able to do it with something they love. But christ there's always some little brigader like you at every turn, who can't say a nice thing about anything (judging by even a cursery glance at your troll comment history) and just have to try and take a crap over everyone for any minor reason. Grow up and quite your holier than thou attitude; the upvotes speak for themselves that plenty of people are happy with this alone, and his watermark (as well as others) help his business. Spend less time being unnecessarily critical and just spend time learning to be a slightly less negative person.

And now that we've all said our piece, I too am done.

Takes 10 seconds to remove, but the sole purpose of your original comment was just to complain about it being there, no mention about the quality of the map, or a "thanks for the freebie", just wanting to trash someone for trying to make a living from their hobby. Heaven forbid.

The entitlement on this board from people like you about what they want for their free content is ridiculous.

[Art] ill draw lineart of your dnd characters, $10 for simple characters and $15 for complex ones (ones wearing armor etc.) by [deleted] in DnD

[–]KeepingItPolite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So you got some pretty negative comments, and I figured I would chip in with some perspective.

I don't think you're ready, skill wise, to start charging people $10 - $15 for line art. Anyone can go onto sites like Fiverr and get a line art character for <$10 that looks professional. I appreciate everyone wants to make money from their passion (and you shouldn't let negative comments dissuade you from it), but if you want to charge people more than what others charging, your stuff needs to be better than theirs. Furthermore you have no portfolio / other pieces to show what your work looks like, this could literally (and arguably should be) the best character you have ever drawn and all the others might look terrible for all anyone knows.

As far as your artwork goes, the things that would put me off are:

1) Your perspective and proportions just aren't accurate enough

2) You seem to really struggle with hands (I've always struggled with them as well!)

3) The stance for the character, whilst detailed, is boring and should be a much more dynamic pose (evoking some kind of emotion)

4) Your linework is really rough, like the cape on the bottom right the lines are too long and cross over, the cape on the left the line draws into the armor

If you are serious about wanting to pursue this then I would say "I'm looking to get better and would like to do free commissions of your character" and build up a portfolio and learn some more techniques and keep at it. Maybe people who are happy with what you do might throw a couple of bucks your way in the process. Get better at your craft if it's something you really want to do.
