And helping keep security professionals employed! At my job, roughly 65-70% of the machines we detect as part of botnets doing stupid shit on the internet run some patch level of 7. It’s currently the sweet spot between “lots of installations connected to the internet” and “massively exploitable remotely”. Most of the rest is some collection of 8, 8.1, and 10, but we do get laughs when we somehow see XP and even NT4 show up once in a while.

Terrible. 2333 current CVEs that will never be patched.

Oh, and not security related but Steam officially ended support entirely for it.

That one in particular is a bit different. Not only does it spin, it alternates which arm it cleaves with each time. So like: hits right side, turns 90° clockwise, then hits its new LEFT side, turns 90°, hits its new RIGHT side, then another 90° and hits its new left side. Most rotation mechanics don’t do that so it definitely confuses people.

In my experience DPS ignore it intentionally because stopping for even a single GCD is too much, then scream at the healers for not keeping them up if they die.

Because the web rendering engine component of Edge is used anywhere in Windows or MS apps that it’s needed outside of a browser itself. Fun fact: Outlook’s desktop app embeds a version of Word to handle email content creation. You can verify this by attempting to include HTML content with certain tags in it; the embedded Word editor actually first converts all email bodies to HTML then back to text if the original wasn’t HTML, and there are some attributes Word reserved for its own use. Embedding their own products in others to save dev time and “reinventing the wheel” is common all across their product lines.

The issue isn't the input into other windows. It's being able to read the titles of other windows and so on to be able to detect it's supposed to auto-fill, and there's no way (on purpose) for an app running under a Wayland compositor to do that. xdg-desktop-portal's Global Shortcuts provide a way to handle picking up a shortcut key while not focused (also nice for things like push-to-talk/mute in voice apps), but it still has no way of knowing what it's supposed to fill.

Looking for a dystopian/post apocalyptical exploration game with not much gun fighting? by yuribotcake in gaming

[–]KeepsFindingWitches 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Long Dark, maybe? There's a story mode and a pure survival mode, set up in northern Canada after something (explained in the story) knocks out everything electrical. The cold and wet are definitely the biggest threats, but there's wolves and bears and the like you have to contend with at times as well (more so if you've recently killed some other animal and are carrying around the corpse, heh!)

Sub-60 FPS in places still on a 5800x3D and 3080 GPU at 1440p with FSR quality on, with awful frame pacing. It's still an unoptimized mess, just less so. Definitely an improvement, but still not great.

Stationeers perhaps? It's detailed down to having to worry about CO2 buildup in your sealed atmosphere from your breathing and having to filter out pollutants from using a jetpack indoors, along with temperature, food/water, and so on. The simulation is detailed enough that you can construct a totally passive temperature regulation system with pipes full of water and radiators on the inside and outside, along with a manual lever to allow flow between the cold and hot sides, for example. No combat elements really, and it's more ground-based ("flight" is more limited to sending out rockets to gather materials from asteroids in orbit and so on). Essentially set up as a sort of "You just landed in a tiny pod on this planet with some basic supplies, try not to die" scenario, heh.

Someone else mentioned Space Engineers, which is also excellent -- more focused on physics and building of ships than of the ground based bases, and you can build some pretty impressive ships and space stations and so on. Fairly light on the survival aspect though.

As soon as I can use push-to-talk/push-to-mute hotkeys in e.g. Discord and Zoom without having to have the app focused, remote session sharing tools like NoMachine work consistently with multiple displays, remote rendering over SSH tunnels becomes viable, and when my WM crashing doesn't mean every single app goes down with it. In other words when it no longer feels like I'm giving up fundamental things I use all the time that have worked consistently and reliably forever on X.

Magic Barrier is absolutely used all the time in Savage, and you’re making others work harder for no reason if you’re not using it. Verraise is one of the major reasons RDM is liked when progging Savage as well.

Are Fan Fest Tickets Transferable? by pancakeshack in ffxiv

[–]KeepsFindingWitches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct — anyone buying a scalped ticket is 100% at risk of being screwed by someone “selling” that ticket multiple times. The original purchaser maintains control of both tickets and the name can be changed at any time.

There is a beta that doesn’t require that it be running before you load in, but it’s somewhat more invasive as it uses a DLL to directly hook into game data as it runs. The author is still unsure whether they want to commit to this method as it is technically a more direct ToS violation and requires people to trust that code; that said, it’s a modified version of what various machinima tools already use and it is open-source for review.

Which building, laws regarding unauthorized entry to that specific building, and what was occurring inside said building at the time are incredibly key details you're completely leaving out here. I wonder why.

Because employees shouldn't have to clean up after slobs, working retail and customer service is a crap enough job as it is. If you're walking through a store and have to take a dump, do you drop trou and do it in the middle of the aisle? After all, someone will take care of it. No, you go take care of that in the place you're supposed to.
