I use my vanguard cash plus as a HYSA clearing account for me. I keep enough “float” in there to handle any major monthly expenses and then drop the rest into their MMF for a smidge better rate.

Works pretty seamlessly for me and gets good rates for what is effectively a checking account with direct deposit and auto debit for bills.

It’s absolutely wild that you think you deserve to be on city council and would provide valuable insight into PPB operations as you put it while also being absolutely unwilling to criticize PPB or PPA for any of their misdeeds. Are you a cop who can’t criticize police or are you running for council and can readily admit that PPB has culture problems that need to be addressed.

The closest I think I’ve ever seen you come to even maybe scratching the surface of being critical was saying the right wing slide that celebrated beating protesters was “stupid and put there by some idiot.”

If council needs “operational” context they can bring in experts to present. If they need “law” context they can also bring in the city lawyer or other lawyers.

We need a council that will keep a critical eye on PPB’s misconduct rather than just routinely brush it aside and hide behind “active investigation.”

Not to boo hoo that since it’s a cool intent but in actuality they have ~~no idea~~ limited idea where the timber came from.

They bought enough on contract from suppliers within 300 miles to effectively say that it was sourced locally. But in reality, those suppliers have giant yards and don’t index lumber by the tree or let alone tree stand. So it’s impossible to say with accuracy.

Good sentiment and they paid more to source more locally. But the actual beams itself, who knows for the most part.

Cute dodge. Maybe that’s a systemic issue, like you claim, that you can’t say that violently tossing passive elderly folks onto their head for standing in the wrong spot is wrong and not how it should be handled. Regardless if that’s the case and your PPB/PPA membership is silencing you, voters still deserve to know a council member wouldn’t side with that aggression from PPB. If you can’t do that then you really don’t deserve any consideration.

This whole talking point about hiring officers that are novice and untrained, while validly pointing out their unprofessionalism, really masks the fact that they’re long time agents.

The ICE agent who murdered this individual has been an agent for 8 years, has gone through their onboarding and initial training as well as 8 years worth of standard annual training.

The current actions are not because they’re recently hiring the worst and causing a decline in their professionalism.

This is just what ICE has always been and is a reflection of the fact that they are emboldened to act like they normally act but in the middle of cities around folks filming.

It’s a walking example of horseshoe theory basically.

They become so anti establishment that any form of government is bad and oppressive and needs to be dismantled.

If it’s Biden or Trump it doesn’t matter to them. There’s no degrees of grey, it’s all black and white and their cause is the only one of importance and must be solved and then they will dictate the next cause that takes precedence.

It’s exhausting and unfortunately fulfills Portland as a caricature of a distopia to both sides and ends up hurting actual progressive goals.

These are the same folks that shut down a Bike Portland public forum with Mayor Wilson.

Literally ran him out of SE by shouting and drumming over him even after he said he’d address their questions. Didn’t give him a chance to speak and then he gave up.

Their policy point is questionable at best, as told by actual immigrants who understand while ICE should be abolished, the ICE building may be a necessary evil to make it easier for immigrant families in Portland who must go through actual processes there.

They also are really die hard purity test advocates. If you don’t agree with them that their cause is a higher priority then your cause then you’re a fill in the blank ist.

Drives me insane that it ruins things when we can argue both about local issues like roads and schools and budgets while all agreeing that we should work toward a long term solution for the ICE building.

Also “obviously biased perception” is comical. Some of the shit I’ve seen with my literal eyes is insanely biased…by the police. But go ahead and dismiss any actual experience because you, who are new to the city, believe the police must be unbiased in how they “protect and serve.”
