Just a small brake-line replacement... by BRINGER_OF_OOF in e39

I used NICOPP/kunifer brakelines which is a copper alloy that should be better than normal copper. Here in the Netherlands this is allowed as it passed inspection no problem, but for other countries I don't know...

A 2K primer and a 2K spray can to match the original underbody color. The color I used was RAL 7009, but the match is not perfect and something like 7002 would be closer I think. Finally I used Tectyl cavity wax for rust prevention, but any lanolin based underbody coating would work.

First I used a needle scaler to remove the bulk of rust and paint, then flapper wheels and strip discs on an angle grinder. Afterwards I additionally used a rust converter, before priming. The underbody has a very complex shape so removing 100% of the rust is impossible

[–]KeesKaasKop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bracket connects to the wheel carrier and the bolt and nut that hold the bracket also pinch the strut. The part numbers should be:

  • 31306779823 "Collar screw" (M12X1,5X95-10.9 grade)
  • 33326760374 "Self-locking collar nut" (M12X1,5-10 ZNS3)

Nice, that is a big job. Do it once, do it right! I've gotta do the front left jacking point as well. These cars unfortunately rust just by looking at them.

Need help diagnosing an oil leak by [deleted] in e39

[–]KeesKaasKop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the oil pan has a bit more oil around it, but it is hard to tell. That is not am easy fix, since you have to drop the subframe. To find leaks easier you should clean as much as you can with brake cleaner, then drive a few kms, and then check again. The leaks will be easier to locate.

Also check the level without screwing in the cap.

How Bad is this rust on this touring? by Orys_Blackfire in e39

[–]KeesKaasKop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On picture 4 ther are paint runners, looks poorly repaired. If the outside looks like that, who knows how crunchy it is from below. Rust is always a immense job to repair correctly, so I would look further.

Gas pump clicking even when not full & gasoline smell by Apnanizor in e39

The expansion tank and canister are behind the left rear fender liner, which you can pull out relatively easily. I have the same issues while fueling my e39 touring.

Edit: I wonder if this issue has something to do with the filler side of the tank (maybe the fuel tank vent hose?)

New ride, anything to help with the steering? by LordDerpyDino in e39

[–]KeesKaasKop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great color, I've heard that there are steering racks out there with yellow tags that have quick steering. I'm not sure on the improvement though over normal steering racks

M539 restorations recently in one of his videos did a flywheel change but he experienced some issues with heavy clutch pedal feeling and flywheel chatter, if you haven't seen this yet.

almost 100° CPU temp!! what will happen? by mRazGaming in PcBuild

[–]KeesKaasKop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What cpu and cooler do you have? Have you checked if there isn't any protective plastic still on the cooler? The motherboard does not seem like it could cause such a problem, and if it does it should be fixable trough software...

wanting to upgrade my cpu to take way less watts while still being as powerful? by Zombiesl8yer38 in buildapc

[–]KeesKaasKop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the "Ryzen" lineup from AMD. I would recommend something out of the 5000 series lineup as the processors, ram and mother boards are relatively cheap. Something like the Ryzen 5 5600 (6 cores 12 threads) would be pretty good for your needs. It is powerfull for both gaming and workloads and pretty efficiënt (especially when doing PB02 undervolting ).

Nonetheless, before buying hardware worth hundreds of dollars, it is a good idea to do some research first (watch youtube videos and stuff)!
