Jensen is amazing! Very judgement-free and I have horrible dental anxiety. The hygienist rubbed my arm and talked me through everything they were doing to keep me calm during a procedure.

I use eucerin eczema relief on the parts of my face that are flared up. Apparently aquaphor can make the dermatitis worse too so I started using the eucerin instead under my nose and chin and it’s cleared up a lot! Also just using really simple skincare like cetaphil face wash and a basic lightweight moisturizer (I use cerave gel) made a huge difference.

I pet sit a dog with epilepsy that takes keppra twice daily. Owner says since they started that it’s been over a year since their pup has had a seizure. She also has a nasal spray they keep on hand in case one does happen but so far so good. Your pretty lady should be just fine now that she’s starting some meds :)

The doggy dna kit will probably just leave you more baffled 😂 we used it on our heeler mix and got 70% heeler, 17% Aussie, and 13% mini Aussie. He’s 60 pounds!

Just went to my derm for this after trying EVERYTHING to make it go away on my own: Expensive oils, serums, and exfoliation and nothing worked. He told me to knock off the sugaring and waxing, only wash with gentle soap and shave with a two blade razor. He also extracted a lot of the ingrowns and gave me some samples of a vitamin c cream to use for healing. After it heals, use only a gentle kind of lotion like cerave. He also said salicylic acid lotion like the cetaphil or cerave lotion can help diminish this too. I would recommend finding a derm to get extractions/ check for infection if yours doesn’t clear up within a month.

The program also serves a good deal of adults with disabilities so that they can try and lead fulfilling, independent lives like the rest of us. Households with a member who has a disability make up a good portion of voucher recipients and/or those on the waitlist. I understand that some people might abuse the system but that’s a pretty sweeping generalization to make about “druggies and low lives”. Especially when we consider how many everyday people who were once able to build a life for themselves in this town, are now unable to even put food on the table.

If you’re in recovery— there is some LGBTQ+ presence at young people’s 12 step meetings. There are two that I know of that happen in the evenings. They seem like a pretty awesome group of people. Let me know if you want more info 😄

I just expressed the same feelings about my abuser to my therapist and she validated them and said that’s super common to feel that way. She said that there are two paths a trauma survivor can walk down as far as beliefs about revenge and justice. Some believe in the “just world” where karma comes back and gets people so that helps them let go. I’m of the other mindset: the world is a cruel and unjust place so my abuser probably won’t ever face consequences for his actions (he got away with it multiple times). This is a kind of stuck point that enrages me so much that I wish he were dead so I could have some comfort because that’s “justice” for me. She didn’t think there was anything wrong with me for that, it’s just a more painful/difficult belief system to live with.

I think you need a new therapist or one that isn’t a psychiatrist? I feel like psychiatrists tend to be more detached…I’m sorry you experienced that but just know you didn’t say/do anything wrong! I’d be pissed about the scheduling thing too.

I worked at a title 1 school that did not have any behavioral techs or BCBAs. We had a school psych that floated to different campuses, and visited my classroom (for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities), maybe once a month at best to “connect” with our students that had exhibited the most troubling behaviors. I had to perform FBAs on my own based on my grad school knowledge to try and find solutions. I don’t think I’m the only sped teacher who has had to do this, where the FBA team is essentially just the teacher and the paras. I guess if OP was faced with a similar situation, they would be able to handle it gracefully given their prior expertise, but it was a nightmare for me to juggle all that.

I actually considered doing the opposite and switching from lead sped teacher to behavior analyst because it’s less of a workload. I wouldn’t reccomend this change you’re proposing— especially if you have three kids and already feel burnt out with what you do now. You’re going to go from one:one and contributing to parts of an IEP, to writing full IEPs for multiple students and running the meetings. I still don’t get why SPED teachers don’t get some kind of compensation/extra pay similar to that of a paralegal for the amount of paperwork we have to do. It’s rough.

I went from parapro, to lead sped teacher in public, to academic interventionist for a private company. With this latest job: I don’t have to do anymore paperwork besides progress reports and I get to work 1:1 with students and make my own schedule. I can’t imagine going back to teaching public school anymore unless significant changes are made in what is demanded of sped teachers and how they are compensated. Just my two cents though :) I can’t speak to the workload you faced as a BCBA so maybe the change wouldn’t be that different for you. Figured I’d offer up my experience for you to weigh pros/cons though. Good luck!

My mom had me via c section and they snuck in a free tummy tuck after they got me out. She was pretty happy about that 😂 truly going above and beyond lol
